I know these guys wont really appeal to those who are more fond of rock and metal but to the majority of indie lovers i think these will be easily in the top 3 of bands we must see at Reading/Leeds this year. Also, after just finishing recording their 3rd album, people will be anxious to hear the new material on record and live !

So what are your opinions on these guys, are you excited or not ?

i am well happy that they are playing, they are one of the biggest bands of our times!

if they was not so famous people would be going oh my they are great, but just because they are now massive people seem to dislike them. WEIRD

At the end of the day, they make some bloody good catchy enjoyable music that sells.

Alex turner is a modern legend.

VERY excited, I think they'll be brilliant. I'm a massive fan and think that Alex is just brilliant; great frontman, don't even get me started on the lyrics, I'll be quoting 'till the cows come home..

Must admit that when they were first all hyped up I was a bit of a doubter, but have since got really into them. Great live band and I think they'll go down really well, my only slight concern is some of the day ticket holders they might attract who are horribly drunk and annoying by the time AM come on, but we'll just have to wait and see.

There set on the Carling stage in 05 was one of the best sets I have seen at Reading and when they played in 06 they were ok quite enjoyable, but not outstanding.

I saw them when they did the astoria in 07 before favourite worst nightmare was released and it had to have been one of the worst gigs I have ever been too and I know other people on here will aggree with me on that. They just seemed not to give a shit to be quite honest, fame perhaps had gone to their heads or something?

Saying that I thought the Last Shadow Puppets last year were increadiable.

Perhaps the crowd at the Astoria gig put a dampner on the show and standing by the techy tower is not the best place to experience the full atmosphere of a bands set.

So I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and I am looking forward to seeing them this year especially as the guys I am going with will be geting alot more involved compared to the other freinds I have been to Reading with in the past, so I know for sure the atmosphere for the AM with them will be great (but its going to be great with these guys at every set I see over the weekend), but IMO I am more looking forward to the other two headliners, especially Radiohead.

The dury is still out for me on whether they are this legendary band everyone is portraying them to be (Ok theve sold millions of records, sold out arenas in seconds etc) I feel there are other british bands out there who have not had the success as they have and are equally as good. I feel the buzz which first surrounded them was a huge contributing factor to their success, everyone felt like they had to buy their records and go to their gigs, which is a big factor in why they have done so well (Both A guy I lived with in halls in my first year and my girlfreind bought their debut the day it came out as he felt they needed to be part of all this fuss and they very rarely bought albums or listened to music). I think for alot of people nowadays the AMs were probably the first band they really got into and for everyones first love affair with a band they are always going to think they are legendary, I still think the Strokes are the best thing since sliced bread but was first impressions of earth really that groundbreaking, have they been that legendary band everyone was raving about back in 02?

One thing I will say about the AMs is that they will last in one form or another.

I think makes the concern about the kind of people it attracts pretty valid.

As for Alex Turner, hes not a legend, he never will be, he writes songs for stupid people who think he's got an accent, he talks about fighting and pubs, i relate to that. Sortof like the enemy but a little bit better.

Ok I'll bite, and I'll offer points for knowing these things (if you know all of these, kudos)

10 points - frontman of Operation Ivy (1989-1991), only around for a very short ammount of time but covers of their songs are regularly performed by Green Day ("Knowledge" was played on both days of their shows at MK Bowl and at Reading the previous year) , Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish and many more.

5 points - Solo artist - released solo album "a poets life" in 2007

2 points - Transplants guitarist/vocalist - released 2 albums between 2002-2005 before splitting up

1 point - Rancid frontman (1991-present) 6 studio albums. 7th on it's way this summer, I saw the first of 3 sold out nights at the London Astoria(RIP) last November where the band played a set of just under 30 songs.

All awesome. All influential. Every achievement has come from merit, not hype.

Legend.

    • Was volunteering at the Women’s Cricket World Cup at Southampton yesterday. Was great fun.
    • Definitely see this as being 'weak' on paper but could see a few bumps up from previous sets at Download (Don Broco, Neck Deep etc).
    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
