Anyone started packing?

Ayup kids,

just wondering who has actively started packing for the big G?

Theres alot of talk about tents and who has recently bought or planning to buy new for this year.

I have got new wellies and a lightweight waterproof jacket (what an optimist I am!) and considering a new tent as some of you know...I was even considering going to Boots to stock up on hand wash and wipes etc!

What stage is everyone else at?

Not packing just yet  but I have done some preperation for festival season -

  • Cleared out the loft and checked all the camping gear

  • Made a list of what we have and still need to buy

  • Purchased several items required

  • Made flag

Next is to air the tents and waterproof them :P

Won't start physically packing till the Thu/Fri before Glasto as I leave on the Saturday

I've got an Igloo Maxcold. Not used it at Glasto, but have at other festivals. With a couple of frozen 2.0litre water bottles in there, everything stayed cold for the duration of the festival. I had milk, bacon, meat for BBQ, bread etc. loads of things.

I have had my Glastonbury box out, unpacked it looked at what's there wrote a mental list of things i need to go out and buy and packed it all away again. I'll probably do that at least 10 more times before we go!! 94 days!!

Decided to go minimalist this year, here's my plan...

Shove a spare t-shirt and boxers in a bag along with sleeping bag and tent and I'm off, buy booze on the way... takes all of 5 mins and avoids taking loads of non-essential items that I never use anyway, leaving space for anything I may acquire while there.

Good shout about wind-up phone charger though, there's one in my bag already along with the wind-up torch/radio... bugger, my plan has failed already!

I've bought a new rucksack, and stocked up on face wipes while I was at Ikea last (rather random..but they do smell nice). I'm going to check my tent tomorrow if the weather is sunny again. It's great to hear I'm not the only one who is preparing early!

Quick question, do the wind up phone chargers work well enough to decently charge your phone? I usually take 2 phone batteries with me so I can leave my phone on for most of the time (I have a tendency to get lost), but the idea of a wind up charger seems much more appealing.

I think mine is the MaxCold 40 Wheeled 38litres (got it for £43). It can take 2.0litre bottles standing upright. I still had a job to squeeze everything inside, but didn't want anything heavier as I had to carry it from the car.

Costco sell the wheeled maxcold 70 for approx' £25, we take 2 of these to festivals. I have found the best way to keep food cold is to make ice blocks from 4ltr ice cream tubs. Put these in carrier bags and gaffa tape them, making them waterproof. according to igloo, keeping the water in draws condensation to the bottom whilst the ice cold water stops the ice from melting. Anything above the drain plug should be drained.

Still had ice on the Monday and freezing cold milk everyday.

Recommend a vacuum sealer for food. no chance of anything getting soggy or contaminated. And you can pack a lot more in.

I also put ice in them for 2 to 3 days before I am going to use them, and they stay colder for longer.

We usually pack a week before the festival, getting wellies, setting up tent in back garden, and the night before we load our hike bags and "The Beast". That's when I get really exited, when the beast finally gets let loose.

Cheers,

I've started buying things I will need...wellies, inflatable wash basin, etc have been purchased. There is a lot more planning involved for me since I'll have to make sure everything is ready to go and fits in my backpack for an international flight...and that I can either recycle it or carry it around Europe for the rest of the trip after Glasto.

But beyond that I am a bit obsessive compulsive so I over plan, and I've already started thinking about outfits, shoes, etc...I know I will get there and end up wearing the same dress the entire weekend...but I can't help planning elaborate alternatives.

Started packing ??? Are you serious !!! Erhm, I haven't actually got around to properly unpacking from last years festi's and trips various yet  But then again nothing much new there ! Apart from the tent and boots which always get well looked after following every use and clothes that get washed, just about everything else gets left in Ye Olde Rucksack all ready and waiting for the next outing. Just need to bung in a few bits and bobs late on the night before leaving and that's packing all sorted  No thought needed and defo no lists etc. years of practice have it down to a fine art taking no more than a just a few mins on the night before. It's pretty much the same old stuff that goes no matter when or where I'm going so it really ought to be able to pack itself by now anyway. The only real decision is usually whether rock pegs or normal pegs are going to be needed that's all.

Damn no. The tent's out on the balcony somewhere, but it's too cold to be going out there at the moment. Clothes that I'll be taking? I'm wearing 'em. No point buying booze yet, cos I'll drink it. So, er, no, not started. My flight over is booked for a day or two before the festival, I'll sort it out then.
