GOOD NEWS FROM THE MET OFFICE UPDATE AN HOUR AGO:

UK Outlook for Wednesday 24 Jun 2009 to Friday 3 Jul 2009:

The weather will be fine and dry for most of the country, with any patchy rain and drizzle in northern Scotland clearing by Thursday. North Sea coasts may be affected by some cloud, and a brisk easterly wind may affect parts of the south, but the warm and dry weather is expected for most of the country, and is set to continue into the weekend. Temperatures will be warm or very warm although it will feel cooler on the coasts as sea breezes develop during the day. There is a chance of some heavy, thundery showers in the south east towards the end of the weekend. The risk of thundery showers continues into next week, although some drier spells are also expected. Temperatures falling a little.

Last year looked like becoming a washout on Thursday evening, when the mud appeared under the weight of rain and all those feet. One of my mates looked close to tears as he said, "Aww, why does it always have to do this?"

The next day the sun came out, and whether it was the improved drainage that Eavis always talks about, or the fact that the ground hadn't seen much rain leading up to the festival, the mud dried up and it was Converse All-Stars time for the rest of the festival.

Who would have thought on Thursday night that we'd be watching Leonard Cohen in our t-shirts as the sun set in the most glorious fashion over the last day of the festival?

I'm taking waterproofs, no question of that whatever the forecast says, but I'm quietly optimistic. Even the worse forecasts at the moment sound no worse than last year, which was really good overall IMHO.

I think me and my mate, in a slightly intoxicated state of mind, decided at that point it was a washout and just decided to go out anyway. Was absolutly drenched and don't know exactly where we ended up, was a good night though made even better by the weather later on that weekend!

Last year Im certain the forecast wqas a lot worse! You are right the sense of despondency around the site on the thursday night was incredible! Gave way on friday morning to a feeling of "Sod it We will have a great fest anyway" and then later on that changed to "hang on its drying out:)"

I've been reading the forums over on Netwaether today and the general mood seems to be that the High will hold on for next weekend and the rain is a SMALL possibility........

Let's hope they're right but as they are all saying on there, next weekend is to far off at the moment to be certain :D:)

Lovely weather here in the Midlands as I type this ...

Glad to hear more agreement that we are likely to have a dry(ish) and warm Festival next week. :D

If that happens I will be a very happy bunny !!:)

PS Fingers crossed nothing major happens to upset current predictions . :D

my understanding is that, there are two heavy rain fall periods in june, one at the start which has been experienced and one at the end, which we experienced yesterday, maybe today and tommorow, which bodes well for the weather....when have metcheck ever been wrong lol

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
