Hi folks, I am an ale-loving lady too. (Pints not halves!) Def agree with the Bimble Inn and Red Flag for ales last year - but has anyone noted this little announcement on the new 'Areas' pages of TOS - it seems there is a newcomer to Avalon for 2009:

"The Avalon Inn: Glastonbury’s first spit and sawdust, half timbered, old English pub. Real ale, cider or even a cup of mead served by a buxom wench with storytelling, musicians, magicians and wandering buskers."

I reluctantly share this info (I don't want everyone to drink all the ale after all) but it sounds like you may have to include this on the trail too??? xx

Trying to decide what to bring. Last year in I seemed to be the only one drinking bitter...admittedly, it was only john smiths, and I had brought too much, and had to take some home with me!

Get yourself to the Loddon Brewery just outside Caversham (assuming you're actually in Readin'). They're not the cheapest - prices are between £1.40 and £1.80 per pint depending on what and how much you buy - but the beer will be fresh and very tasty. It's bright, so doesn't need to settle, and it won't be in glass containers. Fresh beer ought to last about a week unopened, three days opened.

Great to see a meet happening at by far the best bar for ale choice, we tried to join a site-wide crawl at 11am last year which did ALL the bars in numerical order-unfortunately the first bar opened an hour later than it was supposed to so we never found anyone! Ended up doing them all in two halves over two days.

Will be with my one-year old son in matching "pint and half pint" t-shirts and two other CAMRA members including another lady to add to the four mentioned earlier.

Looking foward to meeting like-minded peeps!

Another female here for your meet at the Red Flag (well provided am out of bed in time!). Whilst am mainly a cider drinker, am quite partial to a real ale (esp St Austell ales - would recommend doing the tour of the brewery if you're ever down that way) & am a CAMRA member too!

I was at Off The Tracks last weekend !

They soon got through the 45 real ales !

I had a varied mix of Summer Ales , Brown Ales , Porter , Mild , Pale .

Chatham , Croxford , Cromwell - Why can I only remember the C's !!!!

Not long now !

Ah the devil that is the Red Flag , last year this is how the conversation went on the Thursday over about 90 mins

"Suppose we should set off for Levellers in a bit ! "

"Aye !"

"Shall we have another ! "

"Just a quick one "

"We will have another then , go see the Levellers ! "

We eventually got to Levellers and heard 2 songs !

They have their own microbrewery (Fallons Ales) and had a choice of either 5 or 6 different ales on the bar - a summer ale, a porter and a variety of others - all great quality and eminently drinkable. And all at £2 a pint! If you find yourself looking for a beer in Darwen (though the obvious question is 'why would you be?'), it's well worth a visit - and whilst the beer garden (yard really) isn't up to much, it's a non too shabby place to be sat in the sun with cheap ale

The Bath Ales brewery in Warmley near Bristol sell their ales 'over the counter' to you. Yesterday they had Gem; Barnstormer & Golden Hare ready all at £1.50 a pint.

I've got a couple of 4 pint carry kegs but its difficult to bring any more due to having to carry it along with everything else.

As for cider, isn't Brothers made from pears? Therefore its a 'perry' - fancy trying to pass that off as cider in Somerset!

Hmm this has got me thinking! If I was to bring ale in a plastic container it would last for 3 days if I was to decant every now and again into something smaller!?

I always struggle to know what ale to bring as I don't normally drink from cans. Anyone know a decent mild or bitter from a can.

I think I might get organised this year and start trying a few beforehand. On the pear atm.

Pilton Pop was really nice last year - I only found it in the beer tent right near to the Millets Store and the John Peel Tent though. I will deffinetly be looking out for it again this year!
