  1. No - check out their Greatest Hits album. Released 2020. Dylan, the Dead Boys, the Stones, Paul McCartney etc etc. and no, I’m genuine. And we’ve seen from the other comments, Im not the only one. I think there is a genre of music, that if you’re not into you totally tune out. It’s not even that I’m not vaguely aware, I genuinely have no knowledge. I watched a comedy on Netflix the other week. It had Def Leppard in it. I looked it up - I knew not one single song. I guess it’s the same thing.
  2. Of course I’d heard of them. But if, in 1987, you were listening to Music for the Masses it’s very unlikely you’d be listening to Appetite for Destruction. Strangelove must be about as musically opposite to Welcome to the Jungle as you can possibly get.
  3. No. And I can see on Spotify that I’m in the minority. I also listen to more music than most of my friends and certainly go to more live music than anyone I know. Maybe I’ve heard it before but I’m listening to it now (and, sorry to say, not really enjoying it) and there isn’t a scintilla of recognition.
  4. I’m sorry, I really don’t. I’m listening to it now. I’ve genuinely not heard it before although that nnnnnnn thing sounds like a device lots of bands that I don’t really like use. What films?
  5. I have a genuine (ok, semi-genuine) question for the GnR fans I've just looked at their Greatest Hits album on Spotify. I knew Sweet Child O Mine. That was the only one. Apart from… the cover versions. So many songs on their “Greatest Hits” album are covers. Are they basically a wedding band that got lucky?

    REN

He could announce a 3 night residency at eg Roundhouse/Shepherds Bush Empire/Brixton Electric size venue on socials and sell out in a minute. A bit like Fred Again. Over on the Fred Again thread there are people there saying they’ve never heard of him, yet I’ve failed to get tickets on three occasions.
  7. I’ve helped out with this resale thread in the past but never needed to join, because I’ve had industry tickets. This year it’s all gone horribly wrong and I suddenly find myself ticketless (having helped friends on the main sale day!) So, how do I get myself onto the Google Sheets spreadsheet? Have I left it too late to add my name? Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. i really wanted to go see Anderson .Paak, but when the tour was announced the only London date was Ally Pally. I live in South West London and that journey to Muswell Hill is the worst... so I bought tickets to see him in Dublin instead. It wasnt so much the concert tickets but the cost of a weekend break on top!
  9. You know what they say - “if in doubt, leave the gendered pronoun out”
  10. Having now missed out on tickets five times, I don’t really care which bloody stage he’s on* - just as long as he’s playing somewhere. * hmm, Bimble Inn or Glade Lounge might be a bit packed.
  11. yeah, but… he’s not going to turn it down, is he…
  12. And on the subject of the National Theatre, Richard Hawley's musical, Standing at the Sky's Edge, is on at the Olivier next month. Anyone see it when it was on at Sheffield?
  13. on the whole, though, theres no real bad view at the National. I was at the back row of the cirlce for Othello - to echo @Greenelk - it was amazing. View and production
  14. Have we really got another six weeks before GnR and the Arctic Monkeys are confirmed (or otherwise)? I think my head is going to explode. Having said that I dont particularly like the pyramid headline vibe (and its not because of the acts, some of whom I've seen out of choice in the run up to Glastonbury). One of my favourite games here is 'Headliner or Who' (I dont think the thread had that name but I'm going to post with that the moment the lineups are announced). i love to know what everyone thinks about the other headliners.
  15. Sorry to all the GnR fans out there, but all these videos recently shared have totally reconfirmed my prejudices. They ain’t for me. But i hope many many will be there, as I’ll then get closer to the front of Fred Again or Young Fathers, or Black Country New Road, or Raye, or Loyle Carner or the Black Keys or whoever will be headlining one of the many many alternatives to the Pyramid stage.
  16. Equally there have been people who weren’t considered big enough at the time. Including F&tM. Mumfords, Pulp, the Arctics Monkeys the first time. They have two big names, take a gamble on the third…
  17. Lizzo, Little Simz, Florence & the Machine, Christine & the Queens, Kae Tempest, Wolf Alice. All with current releases. All with a sizeable body of work (i.e. more releases than Mumfords and Eilish) I think all touring right now. And all able to bring a little less cock rock than the current rumours. Certainly less cock.
  18. one of my all time favourite Glastonbury sets!
  19. That was a great set. Actually looking forward to the new album tomorrow.
  20. Only 8% of the country go to private school. And yet the majority of those who succeed in the music industry were educated privately. Fred Again went Marlborough College, Florence Welch went to Alleyns, Jungle went to Latimer, Ed Sheeran went to Framlingham College (the prep school), etc etc etc. My view, however, is that the problem doesn’t lie with the independent sector, but with the state sector. The state sector over the past 20 years has become so obsessed with league tables, exam results and Ofsted reports that most schools (not all) have a very narrow focus. The independent sector is less concerned with these aspects and gives young people the opportunity to fail at things. And to eventually find out what they might be interested in and good at. The opportunity for young people to learn that it’s OK to get things wrong, to fail first, and move on is such an invaluable lesson. Particularly in the creative arts.
  21. Actually none of the above. Well, maybe the Mongolian throat music… Generally I’d agree with you - it is a really subjective thing. And they may be brilliant. And I will listen to them later. but I do think the last point I made is valid, which is that there isn’t a single headliner of any main stage over the past 20+ years that I hadn’t heard of at time of announcement. That possibly qualifies me as someone who can pass judgement on this festivals placements. But Ghost may well be the first. And seeing how much you like them, I hope they are. It’s always good to be challenged.
  22. Again courtesy of Spotify, I know that I listened to 65 different genres of music this year. I reckon metal probably wasn’t one of them. But I think someone like me would need to have heard of Ghost for them to headline Other. I don’t think there has been a headliner of any main stage over the past twenty years that I hadn’t heard of before they were announced to play.
  23. I know this totally subjective, but… I listen to a lot of music. According to Spotify I listened to 2849 different artists this year. I go to a lot of live music, more than anyone I know. I don’t know whether this is an embarrassing admission, but… I’ve never heard of Ghost. Sorry.
  24. Just edited as I’d forgotten the Sault albums. Just included one - I do think 11 is the best of them
