  3. I'm on the coach from Oxford this year, not been on the coach since 2015. Does it still depart from outside the Playhouse? What were the departure/return times in more recent years?
  4. Yes sorry, I meant to say 8pm! and yes it was the Freya link....not quite sure how it worked but I got tickets as a result!

    Pre-erected

Perhaps when I get older I might start doing the same, the most I've managed to convince my mates to do was staying at the Travelodge at Podimore services in 2017 ahead of the festival so I didn't have to get up quite so early on the Weds to drive them there. I think for us, as long as we are off site by 8am we can be back in Oxford by 10am (or 10.30am with a stop) so not really worth booking hotels etc local to the site afterwards. On a coach package this year so I'm at the mercy of See Tickets when I arrive and depart! Hope you have a good holiday. 🙂

    Pre-erected

Where are you off to pre-festival this year? I always get jealous of the people making a holiday of it whilst I'm still sat at work on the Monday & Tuesday!

@Ayrshire Chris Is your resident WV expert on arrivals.
  8. Glad I'm not the only one who thought that! 😄
  9. The BBC footage of them showing the World Cup game from a reporter who was stood with everyone looks pretty minging!

    Train tickets

Fair enough, I'm sure you know what you're doing. 🙂

    Train tickets

Fair enough, but can't think it would be that much difference in times! 🙂
  12. There's a few of my mates who still go now who went in the late 90s and in 2000 (when I stupidly declined their offer to go with them) They have said for all the hedonism etc etc it was getting way out of control and each year was just getting steadily worse to the point that it was either put up the big fence we have now or have no festival at all. I would have loved to have experienced one of them, but it is what it is and the festival has taken a new direction which is enjoyed by lots of people and you turn up feeling like you're at a safe event now rather than worried you might get mugged or have your tent robbed.

    Train tickets

What on earth are you going via London for?! You can change at Wolverhampton or Birmingham to either then go to Bristol or Reading and then direct from there.
  14. I can recall the tickets were online and by phone I was trying both at the same time and getting nowhere..they went on sale 8am Thursday and I think eventually I got mine about 6am Friday due to some link posted on these boards!
  15. overcast and dry the entire weekend is perfect for me.
  16. My eternal regret as well. Friends of mine from College started going in 1997.... in 1998 a few more went and then in 1999 and 2000 people from my immediate circle of friends went. Kept coming back saying how great it was.....finally after Reading 2003 I said I would go and haven't looked back since but I do massively regret not going once before the big fence went up as those who went both sides of it always say that I would have really enjoyed the wild-pre super fence era. 1999 in particular as that was the year a lot of my friends went....2000 they all piled down last minute when they realised they could get in for free and one car load went as late as the Sunday morning specifically to see David Bowie, and idiot here decided to earn double money at the supermarket instead serving grannies. sigh.
  17. 😄 My first year was the first year it was an utter nightmare to get tickets (2004) although it was easy to get them in 2008 and 2009. 🙂
  18. feel like we are just going round in circles now. 🙂 all I know is two mates of mine bought tickets very easily at the end of may that year.
  19. 97 and 98 were the first years people around my age started going...and in 99 and 2000 it really ramped up with mates going, but I just wanted to go to Reading back then. 🤦‍♂️ I recall in 1998 being in a pub aged 16 watching England v Colombia in the World Cup and in the back bar they had BBC on with Glastonbury on live which a few of us moved round to watching once the football was over, it looked horrific, I think they were showing James live and cutting to roving reporter Jamie Theakson around the site and it was just mud everywhere...immediately my thoughts went to my mates down there...no texting back then to see how they were. I only really heard the horror stories when I saw them in college the following week about the thick mud in some parts and mud soup in others! Few of them got put off for a few years after that.
  20. My friends bought them at the end of May, so that's three weeks at least, and then someone has posted on this thread that they bought one a week before the festival which to me suggests they were on sale for a good while and for over a month.
  21. Secret resale that just somehow managed to last a few months! 😄
