For me, Biffy Clyro are the perfect example of diminishing returns. Adore their debut, really like the next three. The rest I am either indifferent to or actively dislike (with the exception of Pocket, such a tune!).

“Available” being The National’s best song, though.

Siamese Dream is a good counter to the Sophmore Slump argument. Charli XCX and Carly Rae Jepsen are good examples of artists hitting their stride a good number of years into their careers. Big Thief continue to get better and better in my mind (while also being incredibly consistent and I love all their albums).

Really excited for the Stereolab show. Have been wanting to see them since they returned but have sadly not been able to go any of their shows/festivals. CANNOT WAIT! Some amazing bands on the bill as well: looking forward to seeing Girl Band and Ana Roxanne.

Car Seat Headrest was my first thought

I’d be very interested in having an in-depth look at this phenomenon. My two favourite artists/bands both produced their best album as their third album (Radiohead/Bjork). Might have to do some research - although I guess the results will be very subjective.

What telly progs are you bingeing on?

I am absolutely loving Squid Game! -
Great day today for me: Kedr Livansky (Techno/Pop), Audiobooks (Art Pop/Synthpop), Tizrah (Ethereal Art Pop) and Ducks Ltd (Jangle Pop).
-
Oooo nice. Personally I’m very excited for the Kedr Livansky album - can’t wait to listen today! Get Grouper on the list as well! AOTY contender I suspect for me.

Seaford Mods also active around Green Man weekend. They’re playing Pstereo Festival.

Just getting round to listening to the Nala Sinephro album. Sounds amazing!

Should have been in the controversial opinion thread 😉

Reports of a new Beach House album coming next year!

Is Nick Cave an outside bet for this? He’s in Europe right around the right time, including Ukraine on the Friday. Could be Sunday night headliner?

Ada Lea’s second album is out today. Really good singer songwriter (indie folk) in my opinion. I was obsessed with her first album which was released in 2019. First song on the album (Damn) is 👌. It’s got a Big Thief vibe to it (particularly reminds me of a more stripped down version of Not).

Was amazing. Found it incredibly emotional to be back in that atmosphere even if I did feel a little bit apprehensive initially. Let’s hope this is just a precursor to normality next year.

First “indoor” gig back tonight. Squid at Printworks. Was a bit disappointed by them at Wide Awake Festival so hopefully I enjoy it more this evening.

Not heard them talked about much on here but Magdalena Bay have released three incredible singles over the last few weeks/months from their debut album that is coming out in October. Latest one sounds like a mix between Grimes and the noisier side of Kero Kero Benito. Great stuff!

Good luck to those running marathons in the next few weeks. Here’s a great podcast on Tapering in the ultra running context but I think the principles can be applied to marathon training as well. I have 5 more weeks of training before my taper, which I’m already looking forward to! https://open.spotify.com/episode/13kk0ptkv5guHxtnyNBN3H?si=GJHuClR-Q463esBAg5fO2w&dl_branch=1

This is excellent news

Yeah probably would be terrible thinking about it!

Speedy!! Well done and good luck with the marathon.
