  1. As much as I love looking at charts and forecasts, the most important one is @deebeedoobee's stick and jam jar. A few weeks of dry weather will definitely do it. Fortunately. the next two weeks look ok, a few showers and drizzly days but nothing concerning. June looks promising though there's very little reliability in those forecasts at this stage, but it is reassuring that they are looking good. Either way, it is still far too early to get worried or excited. The weather rollercoaster doesn't properly begin until it's in range of the GFS charts in June.
  2. The CoL and everything has definitely had an impact, though I'm hoping that it's just a one off. That said, I am preparing myself for Glastonbury to be a more reserved experience as far as spectacle goes. I said in the carhenge thread that I'll take a whelming year of Glastonbury if it helps secure it's future because fundamentally, the magic of the place will still be there, the people who make the fesitval what it is will still be there, there's still some of the biggest acts around playing and although it may be one of the weaker lineups this year, there's still a fair few diamonds in the rough.
  3. Yep, I'll take a whelming Glastonbury if it guarantees the future of the festival. The place will still retain it's magic and the people who fill it, even if there's a little reduction in stages
  4. Compared to Carlsberg and Tuborg, it's an improvement. Not sure how much I'll be frequenting the bars though. Between Glastonbury falling the week before payday and the (expected) higher prices for food, I'm not sure I'll have that much bar booze money available this year.
  5. Taking the thread title literally, I'm planning on doing a test run of the walk from the Ped gate to our desired camping spot at the weekend. Using the glastonbury map overlay thingy ( https://gsp8181.co.uk/glasto/ ), I worked out if I walk from my house to the local park, it'll be pretty much the same distance from Ped gate D to Pennard Hill so am going to fill my rucksack up and go for an uncomfortable jaunt that I'll probably immediately regret. Should be fun
  6. It's certainly a possibility and there's always a chance they'll be asked to do another appearance elsewhere but more likely to be a spoken word set rather than their musical one
  7. Not sure if it's been confirmed elsewhere but just met kae tempest and they are playing on west holts with the speaker quartet. Unfortunately it sounds like that will be the only performance they will be doing that weekend but at least they will be on the farm
  8. Just saw them do a reading from their new book and asked them about glastonbury after. They will be there on West holts with the speakers corner quartet. Unfortunately kae said that will the only the performance they will do
  9. The leadmill? It's in Sheffield
  10. From what I can remember there were scattered showers/drizzle a couple of times and a heavier downpour on friday or Saturday night/morning. It was dry from Saturday onwards I think. Nothing too heavy but the damage was already done by that point. On monday the ground turned into a brown bouncy castle that made the walk to the car a lot of fun
  11. Aside from the Wednesday, there was little rain aside from a few showers thurs-sat. Unfortunately the damage was already done by that point as there had been a deluge of rain in the weeks leading up to the festival which had completely saturated the ground. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of 2016. The next two weeks look relatively dry but it's the 4 weeks after that are the most important!
  12. I'm happy with that. Nothing extreme and coupled with (slightly) above average temps should have the ground nice and dry during the build up. Another two weeks until it starts covering the festival and the weather rollercoaster can truly begin!
  13. True but it's more his position on the NHS as he wants to reform it without pouring money into hospitals. This combined with accepting donations from American private healthcare providers raises some suspicions. Still, a good thing to have some centrist representation. Wouldn't be too much of a debate otherwise
  14. That also jumped right out of me. Though I suppose he'll be representing the centre / centre-right view. Somehow, I don't think him saying anything about NHS privatisation would go down well at all and would probably (and rightfully) get booed at even suggesting such a thing
  15. From what I remember from the times I did it, you'd get 3x 8 hour shifts where one was 11am-7pm, one was 3pm - 11pm and the other was 7pm-3am. Times may vary depending on the bar you're on but that was the mix that I'd got in the years I did it.
  16. Excellent work! That'll make your walk in a dream
  17. Fair shout. Last year I was lucky enough to have friends who were running a stall in the green craft fields so was able to get them to take in the majority of my booze and airbed. Made getting the coach so much easier.
  18. Yup, I'm only looking at the 14 day forecast at the moment. No point in getting excited / nervous / worried about anything over the festival for another month. Though looks relatively dry for the next couple of weeks, so at least the site should dry out nicely
  19. I can't recommend vacuum storage bags enough. They're a fantastic way to save space and keeps all of your clothes dry if in the unfortunate chance it's a wet one. Stick to bringing in decanted spirits only. You can get mixers on site and the weight/space saved by not taking them is worth more than the extra you'll spend on buying on site. If you know anybody who is travelling down by car, get them to take your booze/mixers so you can pick it up off them at the car park once you've set up camp. A collapsible bucket and a flannel gets you cleaner than a wet wipe wash ever will.
  20. They were a fantastic band. Well worth checking out the tracks on youtube / spotify.
  21. Did you ever see them when they were in Sound Of Rum?
  22. Yup, they usually do a few appearances over the weekend. I'm pretty sure I've seen them in some form every year since 2011 so expect this year to be no different. Mrs Shanks got me tickets for Kae's book launch in Manchester this tuesday, so looking forward to picking up a copy and getting it signed by them!
  23. When the time comes when I miss out on tickets and not willing to volunteer, I think I'd either spend my glasto money on a holiday somewhere nice or go on a camping trip with the crew and make our own party in a field.
  24. For the Bath coach people, last year the coach left from Royal Avenue, opposite the Royal Victoria Park Pavillion, BA1 2NR. We got the 6:15 coach that got us in for about 7am. I think I was through the gates around 9am and able to get a space in Pennard Hill. I think there's more coaches later in the day but not that sure of the times.
  25. Nothing excessive. Officially the coaches allow a rucksack, smaller bag and tent so turning up with a load of crates is a gamble as to whether the driver will allow it on
