well unlikely you would get a volunteer slot so close as I would expect Shelter/Avalon wait list would be massive - all the WBC slots were sorted out Months ago - there is a few independent bars but where they get their staff from I don't have a clue. There is supposed to be over 100 bars be it public or staff bars but I suspect many use Agency staff but don't know which agency.

Note agency staff tend to work longer shifts than volunteers

Shelter/Avalon tends to look for volunteers in March - the WBC does not openly recruit from the public and even many established WBC volunteers with many years experience did not get a place this year due to the amount wanting to do it.

    good luck.

    Thanks for the info!

Fortunately i bagged myself a ticket back in October, so this is just for my friend. H works full time as a bar tender and has just managed to land some bar work at another festival, so all of a sudden he's now on a mission to see if he can get work at any others, in particular Glasto!

Ive told him to email around and hope theres a few last minute places.

  2. Just had another quick run through the lineup and noticed Johnny Lloyd from the Tribes is playing! Haven't had chance to check out any of his solo stuff but me and a few mates were obsessed with Tribes first album when it came out, so hoping he chucks in a few songs into his setlist! Lovely slot as well - 19:15 - 19:45 up at Strummerville - right before Snapped Ankles!

    Word, ditto these for me.

Get the feeling I’ll make Midi, less so Kokoroko...

Same. With Saturdays late night options theres probably more chance of me still being up at 11am than waking up by then...

  4. The fact that ive got 3 of my must sees on at 11am each day; Friday - Black Midi, Saturday - Squid and Sunday - Kokoroko. Ive found the longer i take to leave the tent in the morning the harder it becomes, so stumbling out my tent, grabbing a few cans and leaving is usually the best thing to do!

Having said this i very much doubt i'll be this buoyant when the time comes.

Depending on which way you come from Crate Brewery, People's Park Tavern, The Hemingway and The Palm Tree all fit the bill.

Avoid the Royal Inn, despite the tempting location, it's pretty charmless and attracts a clientele to match, will also be overcrowded and service is always slow.

There's a good distillery just down the road - East London Liquor Company. Failing that, and for a proper pub, the other side of Victoria Park has a couple.

Funnily enough, I had a pub crawl around there recently as I'm local and put together a handy map..

Thanks both for this, much appreciated. Think we're going to make the most of the anticipated nice weather and grab ourselves a few crates and sin in the park beforehand. Possibly hit the pubs once the gig is over!

if you were that dedicated you would have probably bought the APE ticket at first release or were planning to visit multiple shows anyway

Im doing both! Just thought a lot more would be doing the same!

People in Spain have 2 different options to see the strokes, the chemical brothers and the smashing pumpkins on the same weekend. Underworld will be at Sonar the next weekend. Having all four of them for 62 euros is unique but it's not an instant sell out like last year's Mad Cool

Where else are they all playing? Strokes - BBK, Smashing Pumpkins - Mad Cool, and I cant see anywhere else for the Chemical Brothers...

The price of flights and a day ticket is still cheaper than what a UK festival would charge for a lineup of that stature! And considering the only Strokes UK Date has sold out i'm surprised more haven't thought about heading out for this!

    Civil Servant here.

I received a generic email last week, stating that Civil Servants can get Special Paid Leave days for volunteering.

Have any Civil Servants here ever successfully applied for this regarding volunteering at Glastonbury? Or unsuccessfully?

I seen this last week and immediately put the idea to bed. But now you’ve brought it back up, I’m more than happy to see where this goes.

i mean, It doesn’t actually say anywhere about music festivals being excluded....

Lovely, I still have some spirits left unopened from Black Friday, which I bought specifically for the festival.

Black friday?! Impeccable self discipline! Id be lying if i said my current collection hasn't taken a few hits here and there..

  10. Over the last couple of months ive been buying the odd can here and there and storing them in my "Glasto box" which is now a lovely assortment of IPAs, pre mixed spirits, wine, bucks fizz, flavoured ciders and many more! Saves having an expensive alcohol run the night before and gives you a wider variety to chose from each morning when you're not feeling 100% fresh!

  11. Seems strange that there's been no email sent out and no update to the website, but at the same time no indication of anymore names yet to come?

For a brief moment i was expecting a gradual release of names over the next couple of hours before announcing the day splits, but seeing as its now been nearly two hours since the announcement id imagine that's it in the way of announcements for today.

  12. Surely they'll have to add another notable act to the Vetusta Morla day if they have any chance of shifting day tickets?

It would make sense to splash the cash on that day and bring in someone else as a co-headliner, such as the libertines, phoenix, MGMT, Hot Chip etc.

The first one they asked people to check their e-mails and if it was an act you said you wanted there when they set up the survey you had an email. The two after that had 24 hour countdowns. It was the vetusa morla and the last announcement  that had no prior tweet, I think the only reason they’ve done this tweet is so the Spanish will know what days to buy for when it comes to getting their day tickets. I may be wrong and they may pull something out their arses.....just have to see what tomorrow brings

    hopes and dreams crushed then...

Hi friends! I'm going to NOS Alive then Benicassim, both camping. What's the best plan for the trip Lisbon-Benicassim? There are cheap planes which arrive at Valencia around midnight, do you know if there are night busses from Valencia to Beni? Have you ever experienced that trip? Cheers

I did both in 2016! For some unknown reason one of our friends decided to be the sole driver for our European road trip, which included a truly spectacular journey straight from Lisbon to Benicassim. To this day ill never know how he was able to drive that journey with four of us passengers hitting the booze pretty hard for the duration of the journey...

As for night buses, im not too sure, however i cant imagine a taxi being too expensive if split between a few of you? If not grab yourself a cheap-ish hotel and catch a train in the morning!

Oh, thanks for this. Just checking them out now, they're great! Maybe they'll be in one of those smaller venues we've all been talking about checking out in the other thread. Two birds, one stone and all that :)

Same here! I do unintentionally seem to gravitate towards the pyramid, other and JP, so having them on a small stage would do wonders for my plan to see more of the festival this time.

  16. Squid replied to me on Instagram saying they're there this year! Only have a handful of songs out but they're one of my must see acts this summer! And they were also recommended by someone on here (cant remember who sorry)

  17. Hoping for a few shocks in this weeks announcement to cheer up my friends who failed miserably with Glastonbury tickets this morning.

Phoenix, Metronomy, Disclosure, Foals, New Order, Car Seat Headrest, Interpol, Jamiroquai, Hot Chip.... any of these would be extremely welcome...
