Oh yeah, once there it runs like a well oiled machine, that’s one reason I’ll always go back, I ventured to Tomorrowland in 2012 and that Organization wise was the pits! I cant fault for them the actual running of the festival. Just the social media side of things this year seem so off compared to usual! One question though, what goes so wrong at mad cool? I’d love to go but always hear horror stories about it

First of all we paid an extra £10 to have our wristbands delivered to us at home to save queuing on the first day - wristband was never sent so then we had to queue for 5 hours in the Madrid heat without any water as they took it of us before queuing. There was literally no water provided for anyone in the queue either, so people collapsing was pretty widespread. Even once you got in your were then expected to queue for minimum 30 minutes just to get a drink. Even on the second day they continued to employ this draconian method of confiscating water of you before you started to queue which was once again in excess of 2 hours.

It was just a shit show. Staff were arrogant and the security were heavy handed for the simplest things.

I remember people on here last year having a completely different view of the festival so maybe i just turned up at the wrong times etc, but after doing Benicassim 8 years in a row maybe my expectations of festivals are much higher than reality!

I'm still dead from Glasto so hoping they'll provide such energy again. Looking forward to going to a gig in the YES basement as well, I don't like the pink room as much as I'd like to.

Post glasto blues has killed me this year. Yeah i wasn't that keen on the pink room when i went, havent done a gig in the basement though.

If i wasn't going Stevie Wonder tomorrow id be all over this. Haven't been this excited over a new band in a long time! Enjoy!

I did! I was gutted them and Black Midi were billed so early as there was no chance I was gonna make them and accidentally wound up at them playing one after the other in the Crows Nest. Hoping to remember a little more this time round, although I remember Houseplants going off.

Yeah the 11am start was brutal, but after Houseplants i definitely left with more energy and enthusiasm than i entered with!

Seems to be a recurring theme with announcements and so on this year, usually they’re always bang on time with line ups and such but this year’s been all over the place! There’s still plenty of time for them to release them today which I’m hoping for but I doubt they’ll release them over the weekend and that means more waiting till next week! The Social media side of things this year has been a joke.

The one thing you can always rely on Beni for is how smoothly the festival always runs. Had some logistical shockers over the last few years - Mad Cool 2019, Boomtown 2017, Glastonbury 2016 - but you can guarantee Beni will run as smoothly as ever. Don't think i've ever queued at the festival for anything for more than 5 minutes, and when you're 6 days deep into the festival, things like that are worth its weight in gold.

Squid tonight, then later in the year Manchester Psych fest, Alex Cameron, Black Midi, Little Simz, Girl Band, Fontaines DC and Kate Tempest.

Normally knock out 20+ gigs between September and December so looking forward to some more announcements. Got my eye on a few as well, really fancy going down to London for Ty's Melted set and Black Lips and Wand are dependent on if they sell out before I gets money.

Did you see Squid at Glastonbury? You're in for a treat if not, one of the highlights of the weekend for me!

    Ticket day in October!

Are we presuming this will be the 3rd and 6th of October? Wanting to book a weekend break to help ease the post festival blues but don't want to be away when they're on sale!

Well they told us we could turn up between 2pm and 6pm Monday, and that shifts were first come first served.

We arrived at about 1:30pm, and found that at least half of the entire Festaff crew were already standing in line waiting for shift allocation to begin at 2pm.

This is why I didn't get the best possible shifts, but also didn't get the worst. To be fair though, it felt like everyone got a pretty good deal, even those at the back of the line, since that everyone works on Wednesday and Thursday no matter what. Getting there early only really seems to matter so that your 3rd shift during the show days isn't a dud, and for the chance of doing 2x 12hr shifts on Weds/Thurs.

Thanks for this. Sounds like Festaff volunteers get a better deal than those with Oxfam.

Any idea how early you have to apply to get a place with Festaff?

As far as Festaff shift combinations went, this was pretty much middle of the road. Not the best, not the worst. Shifts are first come first served (you can choose), so some who arrived early were able to bag 2x 12hr shifts on Weds and Thurs, instead of the usual 3x 8hrs. Others managed to have all their 3x 8hr shifts worked by Friday morning or Friday afternoon. No Friday shifts remained when we arrived, so we opted for Saturday daytime.

Not sure i completely understand what you mean by this. Surely if its first come first served everyone would turn up at the earliest possibility to make sure that their shifts are all complete before the music starts? Whats the earliest festaff can turn up?

From how i've interpreted this it seems a pretty decent deal to me!

Those toasties are dog shit! 40 Min wait and €6 for Mild cheese and tinned anemic mushrooms from a tin. I'd rather eat my own smegma than one of those things again ? Beni food is amazing for a festival but that toastie shack...

Never had one myself! Usually get a kebab mid afternoon before the sun starts setting, the temperatures drop, and the fun begins ;)

Much appreciated. Just last time I was there in 2016 it didn’t exist so was curious. Is the toasty van still there. The one near the camp fest bar? I survived on those things.

That toasty van has been there every year since 2012, so i cant see it stopping now. You probably know this but the huge white tent opposite the toasty van does decent cheap snacks. They do a kebab for 6 euros which i have at least once a day!

Considering ive just come back from Glastonbury and seem to be suffering from the worst post festival blues / comedown ive ever known, its safe to say i cant wait to be back at Beni, regardless of how poor the lineup is!

Just over a week to go now guys!

Glad to see someone's booked with eufest and had a good experience. Booked this thinking it was the official transfers (kind of like big green bus doing UK festivals), and was worried they might be shady

Yeah theyre really good, used them at Outlook festival years ago and have continued to use them ever since!

Only difference between them and the official buses - apart from the lower price - is that the pickup point is at the train station as opposed to the festival car park.

I hope you'll find what you are looking for! NOS Alive/ Mad Cool/ Bilbao BBK are happening the same weekend, with BBK having The Strokes so I would recommend that :)

Unfortunately i'm pre occupied on the Friday and Saturday as i'm in Prague. I think the best option is to just go out in Barcelona for the night and make the most of it. We're travelling down to Benicassim (FIB) on the Tuesday anyway, so not the end of the world!

  13. Absolutely gutted. Booked flights from Prague on the Sunday morning especially for the Strokes.

If anybody has any suggestions for alternatives then please send them my way. Refusing to let the incompetence of Dr Music Festival ruin my trip.

A friend of mine volunteered in 2017 and whilst she did all her shifts, she left staff camping to come camp with us and was swiftly removed from site. Security descended fairly quickly once they were aware.

My understanding is you need to comply with all conditions (so all shifts & staff camping) otherwise you'll be removed and potentially banned from volunteering in the future.

Really? That seems a bit draconic? Out of interest, who were they volunteering for?

I've only ever volunteered with Oxfam before so my knowledge is limited, but im pretty sure i was able to sleep outside of staff camping if i wanted too? Apart from the night before my morning shift i'm pretty sure i ended up crashing in my friends tent over in normal camping each night. I'm sure as long as i turned up to all of my shifts in a fit state (which i did) i was free to roam wherever during my free time?

Thanks for letting me know guys, I appreciate it massively.

I’ve been checking and they are showing as sold out ?

It was open for about 5 minutes as i sent it over to my mate before posting here! He's decided hes not interested as he doesnt want his first Glastonbury experience to be one where he works though. Will post here directly if i come across it open again.
