I think Liverpool's chances hang more around the midfield. Keep the core of Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago and one other firing on all cylinders and the rest falls into place. The biggest issue last year was Fabinho or Henderson playing in defence. Once Klopp found a makeshift back two he could trust, they played (when fit) in their natural positions and things started to click again and we went on that run at the end of the season to sneak a CL spot.

It would be interesting to see if there are stats backing up the theory but it does feel like a lot of players miss afterbeing brought on to take a penalty. One of the most interesting facts I read years ago was that a team is more likely to score following a throw in near the corner flag than they are from a corner. So all the busting a gut to stop a corner was in fact counter productive. The figures may differ now.

My first time back at Anfield last night since the Atletico super spreader event in March 2020.
