The new app has been released.

It's £1.99 to download rather than being free.

Bit penny pinching of them, never heard of a festival charging for an app before.

They might make £10k off downloads? On a £5million turnover festival?

Fine by me, it’s only £2, well worth it to help keep the UK’s best festival going. It’s only a third of a pint or half a coffee.

Yeah but you’re a bad barometer for what’s acceptable to an average punter when it comes to Shambala. They could making getting kicked in the nuts mandatory on entry and you’d still say they’d done nothing wrong 😂

It’s poor financial planning from them, would be better off concentrating on selling out the tickets.

I'm not convinced it even makes sense from a financial perspective either.

Anything sold via Google Play or the iPhone Store has a 30% levy going back to Google/Apple. Plus VAT is charged on apps - so the most they can expect to recoup per £1.99 purchase is £1.16. For an 18,000 capacity festival, even if every single person bought the app (which is obviously not coming close to happening), then the most they'd bring in is a shade over £20,000 - and realistically it won't be close to that.

They’ve made two mistakes in my time there, putting an entrance and exit to Kamikaze with barriers and encouraging an onsite pub crawl for this year’s event. The former was never going to work and they never used it again. Hopefully they’ll realise that encouraging alcohol consumption is a bad idea after the fact.

A three venue ‘pub crawl’, venues that serve non-alcoholic drinks, with no time limit, over a 4 day festival…good heavens, someone might get tipsy if we’re not careful!!
