Friends driving from Essex, we're getting a coach from Bristol, aiming to camp in Dairy/PHG. Tips on routes to get them into the West car parks? Maybe via Midsomer Norton -> Wells -> A39 to Glastonbury and follow signs from there?

Hi all,

Two of our group are driving from Essex and two of us are coming down via a coach from Bristol. We're aiming to camp in Dairy/Park Home Ground so I'd like to save our Essex friends a long walk to the campsite and find a driving route that skirts the traffic management and gets them into the West car parks.

Does anyone have any tips?

I was thinking of something like this approaching from the North and going via Midsomer Norton then Wells to avoid possible traffic management around Shepton Mallet (but is that going too far North):

Or maybe going South like this?

I'm not really sure how much you need to avoid Pilton to avoid getting stuck in traffic management and funnelled to the East car parks?

You're on the right lines but Midsomer Norton is prob too far North and you run the risk of getting caught in traffic coming from North on the A39 when you head south from there.

Better route would be A303, off at Stonehenge, through Shrewton, Chitterne, Warminster, then Frome. Leave Frome heading West on A361 but turn right at Cranmore and then left onto Old Frome Road. Follow that to Wells then join A39 south towards Glastonbury. That route will avoid going too far North and will leave the A361 early enough to avoid any traffic around Shepton Mallet and being inadvertently directed into East parking.

Note that once you get on the A39 heading south from Wells you'll get the opportunity to turn left where signposted through North Wootton and Launcherley villages but you should only take this if you are happy to end up in Pink parking. If you want the possibility of of Orange parking then stay on the A39 all the way to Glastonbury town and then use the A361 heading east back towards Pilton where you will be directed into either Orange or Pink.
