Best of all is to get the tram, then call a taxi for very short not-rip-off ride once in the centre.

Would you decide to go once more I recommend to queu up at the ‘official’ freenow taxi line ( 5 min walk from the main gate). It might take 15 min or so but they are not ripping you off. Even at 3 or 4 in the night it costed us about 25eur to the city center. 

How do you mean? Better as a hotel/ festival combo?   I've done rock am ring at both sites.....unpopular opinion I much preferred the mending site and really didn't like the long and narrow main stage at RaR.
