So in an attempt to get to my tenth consecutive Glastonbury this year I sat patiently as See Tickets opened back up last year, got into booking screen twice but failed to get tickets.

Then came the resale a few months back and ramped up efforts to get friends involved to help out but again to no avail as the scraps were whipped up in seconds.

Ive been really dreading June booked a week in Ibiza in September to spend some time with the benni drummers and chill for a week as kind of compensation, all duly approved by her indoors!

Then thinking of methods to avoid TV and Radio for the weekend, the thought of seeing or hearing any footage would be like walking into the house and seeing another bloke in bed with my Mrs (I know some are into this but not for me).

And then in a green haze and soaked in sangria after toasting (and jinxing it seems) the spaniards in the WC the moment I had been dreading arrived, a full on Ad from the Beeb about coverage for Glastonbury 2014, I sat on the sofa feeling sick as a parrot, the remote was the other side of the room and yours truly was in no condition to crawl never mind walk to grab the remote so I closed my eyes and blocked the lugholes.

My wife walked into the room a few moments later and said whats up you look quite sick, I told her about the Ad and said that given the choice I would rather a bloke built like a barn door walked into the room and knocked me out if it meant not having to see this again, she doesnt really get it!

This morning felt like being hit by a train, the Sangria did flow like a river in the January storms last night and today was looking bleak mentally and still thinking about 'that Ad' last night on TV thinking jesus only 11 days to dig a hole and hide away for a long weekend at the end of June.

I switched on my mobile while still in bed feeling rougher than a badgers @rse, there was a text from someone who mentioned that they 'may' be able to help with a ticket as this person got me one last year who is a trader and has a small allowance of tickets each year, i rubbed my eyes and had to read what he had typed, i read it twice over and couldnt believe it, not one but two tickets for this years fest, number 10, get in there!

Now Ive rambled a bit here and my story will be of little interest to the masses I'm sure but the point I wanted to put across is how much this means personally and how the newbs who have never been before can really benefit, this is more than just a music festival, in ten years this place has fundamentally changed the person I was when I first went until now, the more I do the less I spend at main stages.

This is a place where talking to strangers is good, dont trust stumble around clutching a bottle of rough screaming ALAN, talk to people seek out those who look and act in a different way to the way you do, smile at people (even if you are from London!) help someone out if they need it and in time you will bve glad you did.

Sorry if the above comes across as a bit preachy to some, it isnt intended to, kindness and human spirit is a powerful thing, and there is no better place to be for 5 days, night shift all the way this year, looking forward to introducing my lad to the wonders of Shangri La.

Have a great one people and look forward to meeting up again with some of the usual suspects, happy days :)

The reason I went to great length for anyone interested in reading a bit more detail about peoples journeys and experiences was in the hope that people would enjoy reading and it would make them feel good, having read them now its a great read to know some people are smiling and either understanding from thier own experiences or excited to experience something a little bit different.

I wont be arriving until early evening on Thursday this year and is always the case on arrival there is only ever one destination to spend the first couple of hours sat up the hill past stone circle just taking in the magnitude of the place and hopefully being treated to a decent sunset.

The year (40th aniversay) I went with one of my pals half my age we stomped up the hill sat down rolled up had a drink and met some great people and spent about 2/3 hours up there, then when walking down passed the tipis we had a moment walking past a true festival family playing all sorts and a guy with a big beard was playing the flute without a stitch on!

Now being in the state we were we just walked for a few more seconds, stopped and said ' did you just see a bloke playing a flute with feck all on?

Walked back to check and yes he was still there skipping about and loving it!

The more I think about it the more randoms spring to mind that have hapenned over the years, truly magical place where sometimes the big stages just get in the way IMO !!!
