Noob needing camping advice

Hi, first time at glastonbury, Infact first festival. Me and my girlfriend are coming by coach On Thursday. (Already made my first mistake by booking Thursday)

We're leaving from Preston and my coach ridiculously doesn't leave till 2pm so it's gonna be at least 7pm when we arrive,

I'm trying to figure out where to pitch, I've read torts guide which is great but I still don't know.

Were both night owls so want to be in a lively area, however I'm going to have some heavy bags and most will have already arrived. Any advice will be greatly accepted

Arriving that late you're not going to find space in some of the more "lively" fields. However I'd argue that your tent is just somewhere to put your head down, so shouldn't matter too much. There will be space in Darble/Pylon/Rivermead (the first three fields you will come to as you come in through gate A. We've previously camped in Rivermead when coming by coach and it's been absolutely fine - yes it's a bit further to walk to stuff but worth it for a bit of space around your tent and not having to lug your stuff for miles!

If you end up in the west campsites like pylon and rivermead, you will be right next to silverhayes which runs late into the night. It's a really long walk to the south east corner though.

Thanks guys, you think it's just kinda tough shit as I'm late and set up camp at one of them three? I guess the walks could be an adventure there selves, I wish they would just give me my ticket so we can drive

Arriving at 7pm on Thursday you'll need to camp wherever you can, as quickly as you can. You'll come in at Gate A from the coach so it makes sense to pitch on Pylon / Rivermead. Campsite stewards will tell you where there is space. It IS a long walk to other parts of the festival, but there is so much to see and do on those walks that it would be counterproductive to waste time trying to find space any further in - just pitch then get out and enjoy!

Camp wherever the bands you most want to see are mostly playing. If you can't then all it is is a simple cAse of leaving a bit earlier.

Otherwise I find most of the regular campsites pretty much all the same except whether they are on a hill or not.

Hey there, we're from Preston too (almost!)

Best advise is as given, as you walk in through gate A you will see the campsite stewards - ask where there is space (they will have a site map with bits crossed off etc), get pitched up and get on it!

If it's your first festival you're starting with the daddy of them all and a steep learning curve.

My main tip to a newbie is be sure you know how to find your way back in the dark to your tent, wherever it is pitched. Staggering home with a poor torch in the pitch dark and having to step over guy ropes isn't easy.

Don't remember your tent's location relative to other tents because they move and when you get back there may be a dozen that weren't there before surrounding it. Work out the position relative to things like the roadways, pylons, waste bins, toilets and other fixed objects. And possibly get yourself a headlight - often more helpful than a torch.
