Trailer Tent

Guest Tommo1

Recommended Posts

My missus is trying to talk our group into taking a trailer tent down next year and going in the camper van field - a few of her mates have been raving about it after taking one this year.

I suppose there's less lugging and there is the added luxury of a bit of space and decent bed, but is it a bit odd being outside of the festival? Anyone have any advice/recommendations?

Cheers

We've taken a Trailer tent the last two times we've gone (2013 + 2011) they are really good. You get loads of space inside your pitch with very little hassle towing it, unlike a caravan. Biggest hassle is setting it up and taking it down at the end.

As for being outside the festival, its not really a major thing to be honest. Theres still loads of people around you and your neighbours are normally a good laugh.

Any other questions just ask.

Thanks for the info - would you recommend East or West? I'm tempted by West due to the flat walk - but I suppose it could be a mission from the centre of the site...

Glad you mentioned that the pitch sizes are generous. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that there will be 6 of us in one trailer tent so two in my van towing it and 4 in another car. If we do go for West then I believe the guys coming by car would have to enter the site to get from the West car parks over to the West Camper van field... is that correct? If so then they surely can't come until the Wednesday rather than on the Tuesday afternoon with us? or am I reading it wrong...

Pitch size is determined by two factors. The space the marshalls will give you. The size you say you need (within reason). So if you roll up in a TT then explain the size once its opened up. We've also done East, so I can't comment on West. We've ended up in E17/E18 fields. That is basically a 45 min walk from home to by the pyramid not counting for security stops and traffic along the lanes. Last time (2013) there was myself and the GF in one car towing the TT. We had two friends who were going to pitch a tent by our TT. They had to go in a seperate car with a seperate Car Park pass, and therefore park in the carparks not by our pitch. They then entered site and had to walk from where they entered through the site to the East field Campervan Fields.

Our friends travelled with us on the Weds morning then trned off to park in the car parks.

We've on both occasions gone on the weds mornin.

Hope this all helps.

We used a trailer tent for several years. It was superb. Loads of space, big social area, when you've put the awning up. Easy to move around, tow and store.

The downside is the time to set it up - mine takes about an hour to put the full awning up, connect the gas and lighting.

Mine is also an 'old fashioned' canvas trailer tent which has a great advantage. It stays warm on cold nights but is also cooler of hot days than TTs with nylon/polyester covers. The downside is that if you store it away wet the canvas will rot.

Mine is stored over winter in my mother in law's garage in Cardiff - so it's completely dry. I've now got a caravan, so if anyone is interested in my TT it's on offer for £650 with lots of goodies and extras

We've been camping most years as we used to work. Our first year was in caravan. It was good and nice to have homely comforts and be warm at night!

It depends what you want out of the festival though. Do you want the camping experience or to go to festival and then stay somewhere nice

I tend to take what you need for the day, as it's a bit of a walk back to camp, so if it's hot I usually chuck something warmer for later in the bag and would be less likely to have a powernap before the night, but that's not a bad thing and do value the ability to have a stove, shower and loo if you like :)

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
