This one jumps out as quite fitting at the moment as I have just (in the last few minutes) booked flights to Amsterdam next year to celebrate their King's Day;

The King's Birthday is a great day in Holland Yog. All the rules on street selling are relaxed and the kids all set up stalls outside their homes selling old toys or things they've made. And lots of celebrations. Have fun.

Went to Amsterdam with pals to celebrate a big birthday and by chance it was while Queens day was on. Great time to go, like a different city, closest thing to it is Glastonbury for me.

4 weeks if division is the thing.

Hello grumpy. I've been many years ago when it was Queens Day that was celebrated. A whole gang of us flew from Birmingham and stayed in two houseboats that we had rented for the occasion. Our houseboat was right on the Amstel and was at the very centre of the festivities. The other houseboat was on a much quieter canal in the city centre. This other houseboat was a converted ex mine sweeper. Our houseboat turned out to be more of a mind sweeper! That trip was one of the best and funniest I have ever been on. I now want to take the new Mrs Yog there so she can experience it also.

I had a Dutch girlfriend for many years who had a lovely flat on The Singel so happy memories of Amsterdam. She now lives in Delft, which we've visited a few times. Not got the edge of Amsterdam, but a lovely place to visit. Home of Holland's biggest technical university, lovely canals and a lot going on.
