Different gate - Is it worth it?

We're driving in on Wednesday morning from London but my mate wants to try to get in the West entrance so we're closer to the Dairy ground, where we want to camp. That way, if he makes a trip back for the booze it's a much shorter walk. Problem is, I've heard horror stories about people waiting half a day to get in that gate (mind you, east entrance isn't exactly plain sailing) and am worried about getting a decent spot for our four tents.

I figure it's six of one and half a dozen of the other but in your experience does it make much difference and is it worth arguing about/making a slightly longer car journey?

Cheers

Depends, whatever is said on here is gonna change every year tbh, due to a lot of people reading and following the advice. I wouldn't bother arguing, it's luck of the draw tbh (and as someone who spent half a day at Gate D in 2010, I much prefer queuing to lugging stuff. Just bring some beers/drinks and get chatting to everyone :)

Gate D was nightmarish in 2011, but in 2009/10 it was much less so. Still a fairly big queue but then there would be everywhere at 6:00am onwards I guess!

We're trying a different approach this time, dunno if it will work.

We have never had any luck with the queues. 2009 with campervan we left the m5 at 7am and didn't get on site until 3pm. 2010 and 2011 ( camping this time) we got into the car parks around 7 am and didn't get on site until about 1pm. Maybe this time it will be 4th time lucky.

PGA is the coach gate, we heard D was bad last year so we went to A - totally nightmare. I can't be sure but I suspect every time a coach arrived we stopped while they went in - fair enough though they are on public transport which the festival wants to promote

Going to D this year and just going to stick it out. I get easily stressed & anxious so I might have to crack out my rum :)
