Car or Coach

I don't have a car so for me it's hoping someone gives me a lift or the train!!

Wouldn't mind the train as much it#s just a pain getting alcohol to glasto if using train - I don't fancy using a trolley on the train, feels like that would be a massive ballache!!!

I've only ever used public transport to get there and for the most part it's been quick and easy. The only annoying part is coming back and waiting in huge queues at the train station. Plus you can't really pack much in the way of alcohol or whatever.

But it's better for the environment and you don't have to walk quite as far to get into the site as you would from the car park (I think).

Done it for reading, massive fecking pain in the arse! Decided to go Paddintong as it was just as easy for me to get on a tube straight there and its only 20 minutes or so from London rather than the hour from waterloo! Anyway no escalators or lifts in the underground bit were in operation this year! so that was fun carting all our stuff up on my lovely trolley!!! Two peoples stuff and an icarus tent...if it wasn't for the tube getting busy we would have split it and gone up and down with it:P but yeah...then the trains, didn't realise there was a Guard van as the NR trains get never do! So strulging to get on thru this tiny door and the guard comes and gives me griefs, I ask him how I am going get it to ready if he won't let me have it there and he says if you don't mind we can put it in the guards van!....I said sure! So mhmm ups and down but lots of trouble if you don't keep an eye out for step free access and check the actual train your getting tongue.png

I am always glad I've taken the car when I'm pitched up and I've my comfy chair, my coolbox full of beer, my blowup bed etc etc

Always wish I'd taken the bus when faced with the drive back to Scotland on the Monday

Got the coach there last year as we could only get a ticket in the last resale, with a coach package. Was by far the easiest time I've had getting into the festival, queued for literally about 3 minutes (have been stuck for 4 hours+ before coming by car). Had the best of both worlds as other friends were driving, so didn't have to get the coach back, and they brought in some extra bits and bobs for us.

Can't comment on getting the coach back, but I imagine its a lot less pleasurable. Basically there's no perfect solution- coach will probably be less queuing, but you have to sacrifice some stuff. Probably more expensive as well, unless youre travelling alone. Dont forget you have to factor in getting to the coach departure point too.

Good luck getting a ticket whatever you decide !

Aye where they put bikes smile.png Yeah if I had known before I would asked straight away tongue.png

Also the walk to white at Reading is longer than if you had gone by car, so don't assume you will have a shorter walk than the car parks tongue.png I guess the glasto equiivelent would be Coach drop off to somewhere over by the park? (I think its gate A for public tranport?)

I've done it all 3 ways and much prefer taking the car.

In 2008 we got the coach, it was our fist Glasto and that seemed the easiest way. It was good, but there was only one coach from Southampton that left at 11.30am (i think) on the Wednesday. Its good getting dropped off right on site, but it took ages to get there. Going home, it was easy but we had a really long wait for the coach, which we weren't prepared for at all as we were told you'd be left behind if you miss your bus, not thinking we'd have to wait hours for it! It was (and still is!) a very good service though.

2009 we got the train. Bloody nightmare. Got the first train to Westbury at about 8am Wednesday, had to wait at least an hour at Westbury for our train to Castle Cary, as all the trains were full of Glasto people! When we got to Castle Cary, we queued for hours for the shuttle service to the site. In baking heat. It wasn't fun! I think they'd underestimated the amount of people getting the train and hadnt put on enough buses at all. At the start of our wait, there was about one bus every half hour. They did become more frequent towards the end of our wait though! I really can't remember when we got on site, but we were quite hot and bothered. I think they've since sorted the shuttle bus thing though and get peopl emoving quickly. The train home was much easier. But you have to be careful not to fall asleep and miss your stop!!

2010 I drove. So much easier. We stayed in a B&B in Shepton Mallett on Tuesday night with a load of mates, and all got up early to get on site. It took an hour to get from the B&B to the gates, but it was much easier. Once we were parked though, we were in the Queue of Doom in the BOILING sunshine for 6 hours!!! Made it just in time to get pitched and watch the footy. Driving home was so much easier than waiting for the train or bus.

2011 I drove again. Stayed at a friends house nearby, left there at 5am, queued for a couple of hours or so and I remember looking at my watch when we got to Pennards and it was 9.15am. Brilliant. We cracked open a box of wine at 10am when the tents were up ;) That year, we were in no rush to leave so I slept from 6am to midday, paked up slowly and left the site at about 5pm.

I find it so much easier to drive. There's 3 of us that go together, there's just enough room for all 3 of us and our stuff in my car. We can leave when we like, I dont mind being stuck in a queue when I'm in the car because I've got somewhere dry to sit and I can have a fag and listen to Worthy FM. I have no problem with not drinking all night Sunday, so I'm ok to drive Monday. We always leave sweets and drinks in the car for the way home, and a change of clothes in case we need it. We've never taken a trolley, but manage to carry our stuff between us. We don't tend to take beer though, just loads of spirits in our rucksacks!!

I think it really depends on how much stuff you like to take, we always try to travel light even though we have the car, as we don't want to do two trips!!

One thing to remember is that, while it'd mean losing out on 2-3 hours of time on site, if you come down by public transport, you can always use the shuttle bus into Glastonbury town to go pick up a couple of crates of beer/cider!
