On my second listen. Still in the balance. Tracks like Find my Way and All time Low are superb. But there's a couple of low points on it. "Everything" is possibly the worst track he's ever recorded. Its sounds like McFly fell into an synth rack. Awful stuff.

I'm a complete newbie to them to be honest. Never got into them. But I've been listening to so much "great" new music over the last couple of years and I've liked maybe 1% of it. Its all mostly awful. Its just refreshing to hear something different.

Only on my first listen mind you.

Yeah, maybe its because he's set the bar so high that I'm just desensitised to it now. He's still leaps and bounds beyond many of his peers. The guy's a genuis. A true artist.

If you're new to NIN then you're in for a treat.

Downward Spiral, The Fragile, With Teeth and Pretty Hate Machine are all essential listens. Pretty Hate machine is almost 25 years old and still sounds amazing. If you like this then you'll love them.

Also check out Ghosts I-IV, instrumental album but as atmospheric as anything he's done. And the Social Network soundtrack he did with Atticus Ross. Superb.

This post on the NIN facebook page, literally a few minutes ago, is a fine example of the thought he puts into the recording a production process

Hesitation Marks was mastered in two different ways - the standard, “loud” mastering (which is what you’ll find on the CD, on iTunes, and everywhere else), and also an alternate “audiophile” mastering, which we’re offering as a free download option for anyone who purchases the album through http://store.nin.com/ . For the majority of people, the standard version will be preferable and differences will be difficult to detect. Audiophiles with high-end equipment and an understanding of the mastering process might prefer the alternate version.

I only own ghosts on vinyl (and the others on cd obv) and I have to say ghosts sounds bloody amazing on wax, much better than the cd version.

I may be alone in this but I really like the remix albums he does.

Things falling apart (remixes/alternate/live versions of largely The Fragile era tracks) is awesome in particular

I love virtually everything he's done, NIN, game + film soundtracks, HTDA. All of it's excellent. Amazing live as well. That cover of Dead Souls at Reading 07, just magical.

NiN are phenomenal live tho. Seen em 8-9 times now from fragility tour onwards. Lots of the live stuff that's knocking around from the last tour in 2009 (approved by NiN but not by the record company) is awesome too. Really good quality too.

The Fragile's my fav album of theirs, I reckon Year Zero is a bit weak and lacking, but the rest of it is all superb.

I watched the reading show on YouTube and I thought it was great, better than the last time he went for a real downtempo set sans hits (soni) which, whilst still great, wasn't what I was hoping for being the supposed last show in the UK...

The "last ever show" from the wiltern theatre in LA DVD in particular is a standout of those last tour DVDs.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new stuff both live and indeed on record, but am resisting streaming the whole album yet as I preordered the vinyl and want my first experience of (most of) the new songs to be on that and in context.

I'm hoping for academy shows. If it's arenas I can probably only do 1 or 2, but for academies I'd try and make the effort to get to a fair whack of them.

It's not just the expense of the ticket, but if it's an academy tour then hopefully they'll be a few dates close to me so I won't have to spend as much on travel + food etc.
