It's not a case of perfect singing, more of is he going to sound like my mate after a few too many jars on the karaoke every Saturday night (which isn't pleasant!)

I saw Ian Brown quite recently (for about a tenner in Southend), and although I enjoyed the gig, and he does have a certain charisma, he still can't sing.

They're the biggest band in the world right now, and nobody puts a better show on then them. I imagine V probably wanted to book them and Coldplay rejected.

Or that they had the chance of 2 headliners who havnt played everywhere the last couple of years which will draw it potentially more of a crowd as its fresh

saw Coldplay at Glasto last year so I for one am very happy that they arent playing and 3 bands that are on my "want to see" list are playing. Good times!

You say Coldplay would have attracted more people than both of the headliners booked, yet V is pretty much sold out?????

With regards to Stone Roses - am I the only one looking forward to Squire and his guitar more than Brown and his voice?

Again down to personal choice like everything, I have seen Coldplay a few times and even though I like their music and think they are a good band I wasn't blown away by their live performances. Stone Roses love them / hate them..............can sing / can't sing; it can't be denied made one of the most influencial albums of all time and it is a probably last chance to have a few beers and remember the good times with some of the best songs of the past 20 years. The Killers are a band that have the sing alongs that most people at least have a favourite in there; overall I think two good bands to headline a Festival and it keeps away the Chavs that were there last year (hopefully)!!

[as above] Ian Brown is and always will be a weak singer, but that is not the point. not even close

he is one of the best 'front men' that this country has ever produced, from one of the best bands that this country has ever produced and to see them make up and reform is verging on miraculous. a resurrection indeed

i saw him close the 2nd stage at Glastonbury in 2005 and he was incredible.. the atmosphere was mint and they wont let anyone down this year

even Mani might start looking a little less scared on stage now...

I'm a huge Roses fan but to be fair he is a bit of an embarrassment nowadays. He can't even sing his own songs properly as he's always out of tune and he struts around giving it the Manc hardman attitude, something he never used to do in the Roses. He's the only member who comes across as a knob, the other three (who will be the ones holding it together, not him) all seem like decent guys though, but I've seen videos of him spitting on fans, throwing punches at fans who have invaded the stage when they're on the floor and blurting abuse at crowd members. Musically speaking he is a legend but he doesn't come across as a pleasant person to me.

I'd say Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Morrissey, James Dean Bradfield, Stuart Murdoch and Thom Yorke are all superior to him, if we're talking strictly British frontmen.

I refuse to accept that Coldplay are one of the world's greatest live acts. I've seen them on multiple occasions in several different incarnations, and having fireworks, butterfly confetti cannons, the 'look', and dancing around a lot does not qualify them. I'm sure many bands could blow a ton of money on special effects, but it doesn't make them electrifying live performers.

I don't mind Coldplay at all, I quite like them, but there a so many better live bands out there that can hold an audience in the palm of their hands with the power of their performance without resorting to pulling out the confetti cannons.

To be fair he could never sing his own songs properly live, I would disagree about him being an embarrassment though if you watch videos of back when they were in their 'prime' he always acted the exact same way so he has not just developed this recently in fact if anything he seems to have grown up a bit slightly also John Squire is the one in the press conference who came across as a bit of a knob and its just whether him and Brown can keep on good terms which will make this reunion successful or not

I think the fact that there's so much debate over the Roses just highlights the enigma that they are. It may all crash and burn but it may also end up being awesome. I'll be at Heaton Park so fingers crossed that it's the latter!!
