Evolution of the Animals...

After a fair few years of evolution of the animal hat at festivals (it began around 07 I recall with fluffy cats and chimps) I do have to say that this year was a bit of a winner. Ok so I am a total nature geek and ex employee of the Natural History Museum and I took great delight in running around the festival identifying and seeking out every single variation of animal, insect, fish and muppet that was available as headgear.

Bantering with stall holders as to whether they were selling a crab or was it a lobster? Trying to figure out if my friend had an ox or a mountain goat on her head (we went with ox in the end). Was Dave wearing a fox...or a bear? Just what WAS that weird green number with the tufty bits? Fish, alien or dinosaur??? And the so called unicorn available for purchase on Holts markets? Looked more like a cow with a penis on its head!

Did anyone purchase and take home a lovely woollen animal hat with them? I ended up with a rutting zebra on heat and got crabs! :P And spent a fair amount of money at the stall in the Arcadia field ending up with 3 sets of Beaver hand warmers (ooer) and a flyhead! :D

BUT...THERE WERE NO BLOODY BADGERS!!! ANYWHERE! Disgraceful.

I dont think the lovely people who make them in far off lands know what they are. I demand nothing but badger hats next time at the G! That would be ace! :D

Looking back, I should have gone back and got a giraffe too. If there had been a Gonzo and a Kermit, they would have come home with me as well.

I'm sorely tempted to really try my hand at learning to knit now to try and make my own.

Two Orinoco's made it home with me unscathed! :D We dived on the lady handing out the masks before the show. I gave two to the nice stall holders who had charged my phone for free all weekend.

Unfortunately I missed them being handed out (wandered off to get something to drink with my mate that was going elsewhere after the previous band), but acquired an unwanted one that had been discarded. Mine wasn't in quite such a good shape by 4am (still on the hat), but at least had had plenty of adventures!

Oh and if you learn to knit, I would pay good money for one of these...

Or, perhaps even more valuably, offer free transportation for =<150kg of stuff in to the festival in 2013 :P.

Yours were the very first I saw at the fest...you saw how fast I shot round to the stall where you got them from. The fun and games started from then on :D

Whoa...really? That's not nice. Was this corpse pre fest or during? Not nice either way be it for those who discovered it or the fact that its a dead badger regardless :(

Unsurprisingly Mother Dearest had a comment to make when a bag was emptied and a whole woolen menagerie fell out of it! The question was 'Why?' the answer is 'Cos!' Nuff said! :P

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
