Gazebos......

I know officially there is a ban, but our group always take a Gazebo. If its sunny then you have shade (last year!). It its raining then you have some cover (this year!).

It stops people retreating to their tents at the first sign of trouble, so its an 'essential' glasto item for me now.

IMO gazebos are fine if all four corner poles straddle a tent. So the area covered by a gazebo is just the small (dry) communal area for a group to stumble into en route from bed to summat more interesting.

Gazebos alongside a single tent are fair game for camping under if you can't find a better pitch.

It's a Festival. It has music. It has things to be experienced that you have probably never experienced before. WTF would you want to spend the weekend in and around your tent? There are plenty of campsites where you can do that at a much lower price than Glastonbury Festival.

They only take up the space of a small 6 man tent. Lots of people bring in “supply” tents or a tent for each person, when they could easily share. This takes up more room. Gazebos are more visible obviously, but theres bigger issues re: space - like a group of 10 people with each person staying in a 6 man tent. Ive heard people talking about how muuch room they have in their big tents.

And then theres the problem of the people who rope off “their area”. <_<

Mate of mine tripped over one of the ropes in 2009 and brought the whole "fence system" they had set up down. Destroyed one of the tents too I think.

Ide think if anyone did have a big tent with an open area space in the middle, then just sit in that if its to hot or raining. No need for gazebos with a big open area inside the tent!.

Ive never even thought of brining a gazebo seen as glasto dont want me bringing one!.

only spend time in your area when youve just woken up in the morning/just come back from bands to meet up with the rest of your group before going back out again.

Most of the time can be spent eating elsewhere, wandering around the site, seeing bands, going out to the late night areas

Ide also say people should have a communial area, but only take as much space as you need, dont hog a whole load of massive area when you dont need that much.I try to squeeze my tent close to those in my group aswell, but obvs. make sure you have a space to get out again without trampling on tents.

For those who say they would camp under a gazebo if they were struggling to find space - why not go to one of the many many other fields a bit further out where there is loads of space throughout the festival?

I know they take up space, I know they annoy some people, but there is plenty of space for everyone on site.

Just sayin.
