Camping

There's probably 500 threads on this kind of thing already, but never mind. I'm just wondering where I should camp...

I'm coming on the coach, will be arriving about 11/12 on the Wednesday. From what I've seen the coach will drop us off at Gate A, is this correct? Also, in terms of where to camp, we'd prefer it to be relatively quiet. We'd rather do our partying elsewhere, then know that when we get back to the tent it will be peaceful and we'll be able to get some sleep no problem.

Any tips? Thanks.

Yeah, you will get dropped off at ped gate A.

The fields around that area are fairly quite I think ( never camped there though) but a bit of a walk from some places.

Avoid the more popular campsites I guess, that's pennards, big ground, kidney mead, the one next to the other stage They are a fair trek from ped gate A anyhow.

I usually camp in big ground, it's a crazy sqish but I got to do it! Lol

I've got to admit I'm considering these fields this year.

Coming in at lunchtime on Wednesday last year I was eyeing the acres of space still available, but still soldiered on. When I finally camped up in Park Home Ground on a tiny patch I wondered if it was worth it. I was completely knackered by the time I got there.

True, it's a longer walk back from the late night areas, but then you don't have to carry anything and you spend so much time wandering around during the day it's not really a big deal.

In terms of atmosphere it's all about your immediate neighbours anyway. You can find yourself next to noisy neighbours or dickheads anywhere on the site unfortunately.

If you want your site to be fairly quiet then stick to the north area near to pedestrian gate A or to the West of the road heading south from vehicle gate 5 (see map on official site). If you go to Pennards, Park Home, Oxlyers, Lower Mead, Row Mead or Kidney Mead you'll constantly have people passing through your area en-route to the different performance areas.

I've never tried Woodsies but the two sides of that shape are main thoroughfares for anybody coming in or out of gate A. It shouldn't make much difference during most of the festival but may become a bit busy at the start and end of the event.

Thanks for the replies. We'll probably set up camp relatively close to our gate then, as it seems that because it's further away from the "action" it will be quiet. If not, we'll head for the Dairy grounds...it will be our first time, will Dairy be easy to find?

Yes, just walk past the other stage, with the dance field on your right, it is on the other side of the railway track, the further to your right as you look at it the quieter and roomier it gets.

Are all the ones that are near gate A going to be quiet? Looking at the map, that means Darble, Pylon Ground, Rivermead etc. Seems like it will work out well for us as I'll be at the John Peel more often than not.
