Glastonbury Town

Morning all,

Just a quick question that I think I know the answer to but am not sure. Therefore if what I think is correct I will feel very sheepish but I cannot shake the though that I am totally off course.

Coldplay will be boring right  ahem sorry.

Anyway I am planning on getting the Shuttle from Glastonbury Town early doors on Wednesday. Now does this drop straight at the site or at the drop off point where you have to get another shuttle bus to the actual festival.

I only ask because a couple of years ago we got the bus from the drop off point and it was a nightmare. What seemed to be an orderly queue turned into a huge shoving match and my (rather small it has to be said) girlfriend got pretty scared about it all. Basically we would like to avoid that again if possible!

Cheers

Ben

Actually, Coldplay will probably be the opposite of boring, they certainly were not boring when they toured in 09 (VERY different from the boringness of that boring set in 05).

Are you staying in G Town the night before which warrants you getting a shuttle bus, you dont mean Castle Cary? Scuse the confusion.

Queues are queues at the end of the day and humans that are getting impatient will shove. Have you seen the pictures of the epic queues for the gates before the opened on site last year?

Sorry the Coldplay comment may have been a bit of a misnomeaur (I have no idea how to spell that word apologies), I am actually looking forward to them, saw them in 2002 at my first Glasto on the Friday and they were brilliant.

The reason I am planning on G Town is that my Dad is dropping us off (v kind) and as my Nan used to live there we know the routes pretty well especially as we are coming from just south of Bristol. I figured that it would save him sitting in even more traffic than he has to, even though I appreciate it involves a bit of luck.

The shuttle I meant was the one that goes from by the Abbey up to the site. I've got it there before I think and certainly got it back but cannot for the life of me remember how it worked!

I didn't see any entrance queues last year as my parents decided to take the plunge and come to their first Glasto after hearing about it for so long so we hitched in with their camper.

Cheers

Ben

PS - I love your avatar, that bit in Shrek the Halls has me in utter hysterics every time I see it. I have now watched it at work and can't stop laughing!

if you're coming from Glasto town direction then you may be better to take a taxi instead. the taxi drop off point is on the main road near to pedestrian gate A so any shuttle bus going to the main 'drop off point' at the Bath & West showground will need to drive past it - and you'd then get on another shuttle bus which will bring you back to the festival bus station - next to ped gate A.

getting a taxi direct to the taxi drop off and ped gate A will save you the extra wait and shuttle bus to get to the same place.

:)

Thanks Parson Jack. Would it be possible thento get my lift to drop me off by Ped A or are they slightly fascistic about it?

It's neither here nor there anyway, it's Glasto so will be amazing however we get there!

If you are being dropped off, here is an option that could work.

Using ye olde Sat Nav aka a good map(!) and if your dad doesnt mind driving round the country roads, consider this:

look at this map for Ashcombe Farm campsite(where a big gang of Efesters are camping). Its literally on the western edge of the festival site (the big gap to the right of the arrow that is bordered by roads IS the festival site. If you can direct yourself to this road (Stickleback Lane), it exits opposite The Apple Pub as far as I recall, get dropped off there if you can and your dad can turn left back to G Town without getting caught up in the traffic queueing east to the site and you can pootle to the gate by foot.

My friends and I drove this exact route last year after exiting off the A303 and by using 'Mapnav' negotiated our way very easily through the roads and nipped into the queue to the fest just before PGA/Red entrance.

Ah Stickleback Lane and The Apple Pub. I love the westcountry!

Sounds like a good idea for that cheeky little route. I'm fairly sure I can find a way there. As I said , its Glasto so I need to chill and just get there!

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
