Being released from charity work

Im signed up to do charity work litterpicking in exchange for my ticket. I've been offered another job at the festival, which will lead to longer term employment. What's the likelihood i'll be able to be released from my litterpicking without losing my deposit or being blacklisted?

I have just had to let Oxfam know that I can't be one of their stewards for this years festival due to work commitments (that I didn't know about before).

They were very nice via email, responding to me personally & were extremely quick giving me back my deposit.

Other companies will obviously have different policies, most depending on how far in advance you can tell them you cannot work. But if it is a charity they should be fine with it, especially if you have committed with any kind of deposit.

I think if you tell them in advance it'll fine fine, as far as I know they only blacklist people who take the tickets but don't show for their shift - things change all the time and it's not like you're actually trying to use the ticket they're offering you

You may get some of your deposit back but then you may find your blacklisted { if it is after the official deadline } and really you have only yourself to blame.

No future employer is going to blame you if you are up front and say - look I have already applied and been accepted for a place and then say you can work with them in 2013.

Or at the very least be up front with the litterpicking Charity and say look I am willing to stick with you but I have been offered this job and then leave it to item to decide.

I know that its very old fashioned but sometimes Honesty is the best policy

    • I really like the Cheap Thrills! I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester in January at one of Chris Hawkins' "Awesome Friends" nights (which i think is why I even got tickets as it wasn't listed as a Cheap Thrills show!). Very good live and some great songs. I would've gone Saturday if I'd planned ahead!
    • They also seem to be in a mission to break the US with their new major label and this latest LP   Mid afternoon, live streamed on Disney+ is arguably a much bigger gig than Kendal Calling, if they had to skip one
    • This is massively exciting. I've been curious to who will be provide vocals for their live show and this is mega!
    • Seems to be getting reported as his only headline show in UK, I would say he's probably out BST now but can be on the Sunday teatime glasto slot or something
