Carling

Can't say I'm too fussed to them cahnging it to Tuborg. I find Tuborg at fests is slightly better than Carling. They're still both pish though.

Plenty of other booze at rockness though, as has been mentioned the Drambuie Bar was amazing and this year I recon I'll be drinking alot of Real Ale. I shall be avoiding the Jagermeister though.

It must have cost quite a bit to run the amnesty. But they would have thought that in the long run sales would go up as people would convert to Carling as their main beer. Plus in people's campsite photos if everyone is drinking Carling people are giving them advertising on social networking sites.

Trust me the people did not really pick up in the name because at various times at Glastonbury when we switched to Carlsberg or Carling { or vice versa } even although there was brand names all over the place it would take four years for people to stop asking for the previous brand.

When they ran the Cold Beer Amnesty at various events they used to take a snap survey and even although the official name was ' Carling Cold Beer Amnesty ' the only name that stuck was ' Cold Beer Amnesty ' and this is as the person being interviewed had a can of Carling in his/her hand and most people did not pick out Carling from a list of beer names.

take Reading and Leeds - During 1998-2007 they were known as the Carling Weekend: Reading and the Carling Weekend: Leeds.

They spent a fortune to get Festival Republic to change the name but it was not sticking in.

Whatever the figures are Carling are not willing to pay the high amount of sponsorship hence Carlsberg took over and they have been pushing their brand Tuborg at every event they can get a toe into.

Budweiser was at one time the ' official beer at Glastonbury ' and every pint cup was covered with the name Budweiser but Customers did not notice - well they may have noticed but they never associated the name with Glastonbury when they were asked by pollsters.

I would imagine they will drop the Cold Beer Amnesty at most events and rethink their spending.

At the back end as I work at loads of events each year I know their festival brewery staff switched over to Carlsberg so it was the same people just a different brand.

This thread is a re run of the thread that appeared in the Reading section as no one mentioned Carling at all until all of a sudden Carling Cold Beer Amnesty was no longer available and they did ask for it back.

Have to agree about the Carling Beer Amnesty. I've seen it at Leeds and Rockness and I don't know one person who has came back from the fest and started drinking Carling. I never understood how they imagined making a profit on it.

Same goes (as Glasto Worker mentioned) calling Reading and Leeds, The Carling Weekend. I don't know anyone that referred to it as anything but Reading and Leeds another bad call and waste of money from the marketing team.

Tennents seem to do quite well from TITP but we're a small country, how many pubs don't do Tennents? I certainly wouldn't start drinking Tennents after a weekend at T if I didn't already like it and I doubt many others would either. The difference between that and the Carling deal with R&L is that the T is and always has been in the name. What would happen if Tennents pulled out? Tea In The Park?
