What time does the site close on Monday, or what time does everyone hav to have left by?

Wondering cause I'm staying in a campervan but I'm putting up a tent near the main stages aswel, for when I can't be bothered going back to the van, so I was planning on going back in on Monday morning to take the tent down, but will they let me back in to do that?

I'd just pack it up the last time you are planning to go back to the van, if you leave it alone monday daytime unattended someone will likely assume it's been abandoned, pack it up and take it home. Some people see this as recycling and helping to clean up the site, others see it as theft.

I'm sort of neutral on the activity as there ARE lots of abandoned tents every year and those are fair game, as far as I'm concerned. If little johnny rich kid wants to spend £200 on a family tent for himself and then abandon it I have no problem with someone tatting it and keeping it for themselves/ebaying it. If the owner was, however, popping out for a cup of coffee and a crap, that is a whole other matter.

People can move in and out freely on Monday, so long as they maintain their ticket stub and wristband for getting back in. Many people have to make multiple trips to their car.

Think they want everyone out by 5pm but theres countless stories of people staying later than that, even people staying an extra day or so.

Yeah, I've heard similar accounts. The last couple of years I have been lucky as I have friends who are stewards and can drive their car on site, so I pack my gear straight into their boot and we drive offsite. I have seen people rolling out trollies to the carparks with a dozen or more tents all packed up neatly before, you can't tell if they were there with a big group or were just opportunists who had grabbed the chance to make a few quid.

There are far too many tents and items of camping equipment left behind each year, so I sort of support the idea that those who pack them down if they are abandoned should be allowed to do so, I've seen tales on this forum of people who have 'upgraded' at the end of the festival where their neighbours have left expensive tents behind. The group by me packed what little they wanted to take home with them (literally less than a carrier bag's worth of clothing) and abandoned everything else, including 2x4 man tent with double bedroom, both of which had housed only one person, with the other bedroom being a wardrobe and 2x3 man domes as well as airbeds, chairs and lots of clothes. They cleared off on the sunday and never returned, their tents had gone by the time I packed up and it wasn't them that did it, fair play to whoever took their gear, they were selfish little rich kids who managed to act like complete dicks the whole weekend whilst being crap neighbours.

Ive been still onsite at around 9pm on a monday and there were still lots of people milling about.

I wasnt aware of a closing time as such, I know the water gets turned off and the vast majority of the stalls are shut down so there's no reason to stay on the monday, except to chill out before heading back to the real world!

I've heard of people that stay for a couple of days and that there are lots of after parties on monday night

There are indeed after parties. The various traders, security and other workers have their own little bashes, plus you get collections of festival-goers who never left the site drinking all the alcohol and whatever substances they've found. I stayed around looking after a very messed-up friend in 2008 but wouldn't recommend it - the place had become a huge building site and I found the post-festival mundane activities a bit depressing.

I want to cry once I'm packed up, normally by 10am, and then I cant wait to get on the road. It really brings me down mondays on site cant wait to get home and get in a bath.

I always want to just get home on the Monday as well.

My OH is great for just getting up, ignoring any banging heads or general roughness and just packing up and leaving. We camped with some friends we don't usually camp with last year and they thought it was really funny as they were sat round chilling. We were straight out though and having KFC at the services within an hour of getting up! And then home within another 4 hours.

Would hate to see the site getting taken to bits, I think I'd cry.

There are literally thousands of tents left every year, of all shapes sizes and values. people perception of value alters considerably with a five day hangover. If you leave your tent unattended for more than an hour or two on the monday it could get recycled. I have seen entire camps abandoned, with 4 or five tents plus all the trimmings abandoned and left to be thrown away. I think its fair enough for a few industrious souls to get a head start on the old recycling.

I wouldn't leave anything of value unattended past midday.

There is a vid here from 2009 showing the massive waste of tents left behind, surely most of them must be just binned as it would take too much time and effort to dismantle every tent .

I wish they could show it on Sunday on the Pyramid screens to remind people to take their crap home.

I find Mondays at Glasto really horrible; the thing that gets me is always the green patches of grass where tents have been taken away (possibly pinched judging by this thread!)

For the last few years we've left at around 3am on the Monday morning - no traffic all the way back to London.

There are certainly some people who hang around though; I remember reading an interview with ME and EE years ago where they talked about a guy whose job it was to collect together the people who were "incapable" of leaving. Some of them didn't really have anywhere to go. From what EE said they'd sometimes be there for a few weeks at the Farm before being sent on their way.

I believe the official line is 5pm on the Monday though.

Sorry, but I think it is the very tiny minority of people who camp who would leave an expensive tent. If you are rich enough to just dump a £200 tent, then you are almost certainly rich enough to be in hospitality, probably driven around in a golf buggy all weekend and living in a hyper-pimped double-decker bus or some such.

Obviously people do leave stuff, but not really expensive stuff. You can be fairly sure that someone isn't gonna mind too much if their £10 Argos jobbie gets 'recycled', but if someone is 'recycling' a £200 tent then it is almost certainly theft. I'm sure it would be possible to get a charity to come and collect tents from the site, to be resold on eBay to make money for the charity. Why should a few sods get to go round helping themselves, all in the name of personal greed? :S

I disagree, i think there's a lot of people who'll set aside an amount circa £1000 each year for the festival with £500 spending so they don't have to take any food or booze, £200 for a ticket, and the remaining for any camping gear which they leave as they'll never need it again once they're back in their city lives. You don't have to be that rich to be able todo that, it's only the equivalent to 7-10 days somewhere nice abroad.

Really, I've seen it first hand in 2009 where an entire group left every tent, all of which were straight out of the packaging and never pitched before when they arrived and walked away leaving the lot, plus chairs, airbeds, lots of booze and most of their clothes. They discussed packing up sunday before blur, decided against it and went straight home after the headliner, never returning to their abandoned stuff, which was still there when I left and someone clearly would have tatted.

I work for one of the retailers named and shamed in the video. I don't really think the company I work for is in any way to blame for those people who think it's fine to spend money on a tent and then leave it behind (unless you count selling discount tents as an encouragement to the behaviour, which is a perspective I can understand but don't agree with).

What someone else said is the best advice though, leave nothing unattended after midday monday.
