Mobile Phone Internet Usage

I'm one of those 'I know what I want, and I know what I will do to get it' type of people and have been trying to get a specific mobile phone on a deal that suits me however, I am beginning to find myself in a position where I am seriously falling short of what I want!

I currently pay £15 per month for 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet (it's an old tariff and is unlimited - no "fair usage cap")

Minutes are about right for me and texts - I use maybe 1000 per month however, the internet has astonished me. I've never really kept track of the internet cause it was free but for the past few months I have utilised the data tracker and on month 1 I 'downloaded' 3.04gb data, month 2 2.98gb data and so far this month 3.06gb (month ends 23/04)

Most deals now have a useage cap, often no more than 1gb unless you start paying (what I consider) over the odds.

I have seen Talk Mobile's (from the CPW) offer of:

Tariff DetailsExtrasNetwork Tariff Contract length Minutes Texts Internet Offer Handset price

Talkmobile Smart plan £30, 24 months 24 Months 750 minutes Anytime Any network

1500 texts

Unlimited* MB

*Subject to fair use policy, but the good news is the fair use policy does not apply to Talkmobile 'Never pay for the internet' deals.

Can anyone tell me if Talk Mobile are any good or if you know any better deals than this? Phone I want is HTC Desire Z. Don't fancy the New Nokia E7 due to the OS. Any comments on Talk Mobiles general coverage etc. I am marginally concerned as I have Talk Talk internet and their service is less than desireable at times. Cheers

Hi Jono

TalkMobile are an MVNO that use the Vodafone network. Coverage wise it is exactly the same so providing you are covered by a VF network you'll be ok.

Whilst TalkMobile are a CPW company (along with TalkTalk) they are run separately to other parts of the CPW empire (TalkTalk actually offer mobile deals as well)

As for the deal its pretty shit hot for data. It caused a bit of talk in the industry and a few raised eyebrows.

Finally dont bother with Nokia symbian devices. Crock of shit. Stick to the Android platform and you'll be ok.

Do you tether your phone to a laptop/computer or use all of the data directly via the phone?

I'm with GiffGaff and have been for a few months now, easily one of the best networks I've been with. It's run by o2 so piggybacks their network, meaning signal is exactly the same quality but its a lot cheaper as well. It's technically PAYG and is fairly competitive but the main draw is that you can buy "Goodybags" which are a bundle of mins/texts that lasts 30 days.... so essentially a 1 month rolling contract that you can change each month depending on what suits you best. Calls & Texts between giffgaff users are always free as well.

I've been using the £10 tariff which is just fine for me (250 mins) but it looks like you may be good with the £15 (400 mins) or £20 one (600 mins). All the goodybags give unlimited texts and also unlimited internet with no fair use cap (Only stipulation is that you don't tether) so pretty much the only thing that changes between packages is the number of minutes and everything else is "all you can eat".

Final thing, support is offered by their forums, predominantly by users which they reward through "points" based on users contributions. It's a really good system in that you get a response really damn quickly and they are quite generous with it as well. I've only posted 4 or 5 times there but have had over £5 in payback as a result

Heres a link if anyone is interested. I'll come clean in that its an affiliate link for myself where if you order and activate a sim using that link I get a £5 kickback and you'll start with £5 free credit. If that seems a bit cheeky then just use a normal link because they are genuinely a really good company in the time I've been using them.

/Promotion

    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
    • Did you camp or go for a hotel? I looked into it briefly and seems easy enough to get back to Nuremberg.
    • Been last time in 2018 when the festival was happening in parque Bela vista. ls the new location good for such a big festival? What's the temperature in the evening near Tejo? Should we bring a raincoat or a jacket?
