Ok, with the main announcement tonight there was the ominous "Special Guests" placeholder fourth from top on the NME stage for the saturday Reading/Sunday Leeds. Normally reserved for the not-yet-announced bands crossing over from another festival who still rely on their drawing power.

Who do you think is playing there?

If I had to choose someone from another festival it would be The Mars Volta from Sonisphere. I'm going watching them at Soni anyway but I'm greedy. Maybe they're too big for that slot anyway, they'd need a decent amount of time.

mars volta fit the bill for rock fans with an open mind. Seeing them at soni but would love to see them at leeds with all my mates as well, we grew up on them

Looking over the day, and especially with the comment "Rocksound fans with an open mind" will enjoy them, I'd be surprised if the special guests were the Mars Volta. As much as I'd like to see them it just doesn't really seem to sit right with the rest of the day on the stage, which in my view is a great shame.

Then again the obvious retort is that Jane's Addicition after Crystal Castles doesn't really fit either and adding a heavier band somewhere below them will even out the day, so I could (and hope to) be wrong about this.

However, that comment from Melvin is making me edge towards the belief that he has signed another indie-styled band I will have little interest in seeing.

i'd say magnetic man? even though their subbing for chem brothers at Creamfields, low enough to do Leeds then go to Cream afterwards? then come to Leeds on the Sunday, if it is them, i don't expect to move from that stage all day

EDIT: mean Reading not Leeds my bad.

    • Wednesday is a nice addition imo
    • Kronenberg in a tent as well IIRC but Brooklyn Pilsner was easier to get without queueing and was everywhere across the festival.
    • I think they'll end up doing something due to pressure and bad PR. Maybe they do a discount code for next year or bar credit or something along those lines.    I agree though. I acknowledge that the lineup is huge but surely you can't cancel 33% of the headliners and not reimburse in some way. Their insurance will probably cover their fees for MA, Doja, Bad Gyal and Mac DeMarco due to force majeure.
    • Looks like nothing for weekend ticket holders. You'd expect a goodwill gesture.
    • Enough has been covered about how much of a sh*t show that was, so I'll just say, Massive Attack and it's relationship with this festival (and potentially me) are f**king cursed.    They were announced in 2020 when I first got excited about seeing them. They were subsequently on the poster for 21, 22 and now 26. This time I was in actually in the crowd close to the stage waiting for them twice haha. I give up!
