Finally got round to starting mine- Cherry drops are hard to track down!

And when I did find them they were 91p a packet!!! (Granted it was at a train station WH Smith but still!!!)

I have begun work on the foxes vodka - this time found a special limited edition flavour packet of mango, peach and passion-fruit sweets so I'm hoping this tastes lush. Might have to pop back to the shop though and get another bag as many sweets got sampled before I'd even got home from the shop..... Keep us posted voddy-peeps on the other flavours!

I've never done this before, but this thread inspired me to have a pop, I've gone for pear drops, rhubarb & custards, fizzy bumblegum balls, apple & blackcurrents, parma violets and cherry pips. Was surprised at how quick they all melted though, it's only been a day or so and they're more or less dissolved, hope this stuff don't go off too quickly.

My test factory is in full effect, sugar free cherry drops, sugar free pear drops and glacier mints...

Small amounts to get the concentration right then a big effort at the weekend for it all to be ready for next weekend. Smashing the sweets makes the world of difference!

15g smashed sweets + 125ml vodka seems to be a good combination, but the cherry is a bit weak, time for some more sweets to go in!

I've got a litre of vodka on the go with 4 packets of Cherry Drops so far... Do you think I'll need more?

Haven't actually taken that much vodka out to fit them in- 100ml max I reckon

The fruit sherbet is a bit of a disaster, tastes like cough medicine and has the same texture. Fruit salad and the werthers are however winners.

Having thoughts about lychee vodka, have them steeping in the vodka at the moment but think I'm going to have to blend at least some with the vodka, anyone else using real fruit with any tips?

I'm meaning to buy a fine mesh tea strainer tomorrow so I can seive off the sugary gunk a bit better, then I'm going to throw them in the freezer til its time to set off. They have been stewing on the side for several weeks and we had a wee taste of each last week and all 4 are winners.

I used sour skittles, seived off the gunk, added foxes glacier fruits, seived off the gunk and then threw some wine gums in, after a week the actual wine gums had turned into clear jelly, which I removed, allowed to set in a cup and then ate at about 2am one night when I couldn't sleep (hey presto, I suddenly could).

Started mine tonight:

That's Butterscotch Toffee (like werthers), Mint (like glacier mints) and Sour Apple Cubes, 200g of each in 700ml of Red Square. Should be all dissolved by tomorrow eve. Then they'll get two drops of brewers finings solution and 24 hours later I'll siphon off the lovely clear coloured vodka into plastic bottles. The remaining unclear stuff can be done in a couple of shots to celebrate a job well done. B)

Finings is what brewers use to make beer/wine/any alcohol go clear. It has no taste and works very well (although careful siphoning afterwards is required for best results!). It's available from anywhere that sells homebrew stuff, costs about £2 or £3 for the two little bottles that last ages as you use so little of it.

The one I use is this one and for 700ml you literally just need a drop of the stuff.

Update on my vodkas: Mint one worked very well, tastes great and didn't need any filtering or finings. Apple tastes great too but the toffee one has had problems. The toffees I used didn't have as much colour as Werthers so it was very weak in colour.... and looked like pi55. So I thought I'd add some food colouring - green + red = brown, right? Wrong. Green + red even in the tiniest amounts made it go so dark it looked like dark chocolate. So I added some yellow too to try and lighten it again which worked a bit but not as much as I hoped. So my toffee vodka now looks a bit dodgy but still tastes great. Hey ho, I'll know for next time.

Did you know... They use a finings solution made from fish in the production of Guinness, so technically Guinness isn't suitable for vegetarians (assuming they don't eat fish).

Righto, well my parents have just got back from holiday and bought me back a couple of liters of Mr Smirnoff's finest from the duty-free as payment for dropping them off and picking them up.

Got 4 flavors on the go in 4 500ml bottles, filled one up with 5 crushed Wham bars, another with 3 packs of Cherry Drops, another with 100g of Blackcurrant Boiled sweets and the 4th with 100g of Raspberry Boiled sweets. Filled all the bottles up with vodka afterwards and seem to have used about 1.8L in total (Based on whats left). Got them sitting in hot water as we speak.

Does this sound like enough in each one? Or should I top any of them up some more?
