Anyone on here use a media server for all their films music etc?

I usually just put my films and tv shows onto a usb stick and play via my ps3 but i'm looking at ordering an acer revo 3700 and intend to put xmbc on it as the interface looks fantastic

Has anyne got one of these or anything similar they would recommend?

But how much is the Acer Revo 3700? Is it not over £250?

Yeah it looks good, but to be honest it is just a fancy dash, not worth it IMO

Will probably be getting the Virgin Media TIVO box when it's out, and should be possible to stream from external drives through that anyway.

I sometimes use tiversity and stream from my netbook - my 360 and then watch trhrough the tv

other times sometimes just plug a USB portable HDD into my 360 and watch through 360..plays quite a lot of files, xvid, divx, 720p..but no mkv

I also have a Sumvision Cyclone mini media player - small device only cost me about 20 quid, connects via HDMi , plug a USB drive in and boom watch your favourite files :)

xbmc is nice though

Western digital do a media centre which sounds quite good, WD Live or something--saw it on hotukdeals the other day

I've had a wdtv live for a little over a year. Great little box. Interface isn't flashy, but if you're just using it to films etc on a tv it's great. There's custom firmware out there too if you want it (eg for HD YouTube)

I normally stream to my xbox using tversity. just bought a Playon HD for my inlaws for chrimbo, its very good, and handles mkvs etc. its a bit cheaper than the one you mention modey, but the interface isnt as impressive.

We’ve got live streaming via the original xbox,, haven’t really used it mind. Also got XBMC, don’t use it, its pointless, all show. We’re using networking over electricity though which is pretty cool.

You can only really pick up what's on 28e sat with a sky dish, mainly all the sky channels but the motorised dish picks up multiple sats and so virtually every channel available :D

Yeah very straight forward if you are connecting it to a sky dish, you just need to do a bit of work by FTP to sort out the card sharing side but other than that it's easy

Yep, just a matter of connecting the cable from your sky dish, you'll pick up all the fta straight away

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.

    • BBC iPlayer: Will serve as the main hub for past sets, including both recent hits and iconic archival gems. You can explore the BBC iPlayer to watch curated compilations, "Best of Glastonbury" recaps, and on-demand replays of historic headline performances. [1, 2, 3] TV Broadcasts (BBC Two & BBC Three): The channels will air dedicated compilation shows. Leading up to the weekend, you can watch archive programming such as Glastonbury: 70s Legends, 80s Legends, and 90s Legends on BBC Two. [1] Radio & BBC Sounds: Pop-up Glastonbury radio stations on BBC Sounds will feature non-stop coverage, including exclusive mixes and huge sets from past years
    • Got HBO Max to watch football so watched One Battle After Another which is a great film and deserves its awards and then rewatched Magnolia and that is a flipping amazing film...so much in it. (also rewatching Angels In America series which is also amazing).
