can you freeze wine. i bought a box and intend to take out the pouch to have on the wednesday. can it be frozen? will the bag split if i do?

I would not risk freezing the bag as liquid can expand when frozen. Stick it in a cool bag with a couple of bottles of frozen water is your best bet.

I have accidentally frozen wine a couple of times, mainly after drinking the one bottle I had planned to then realising that I wanted a second, so throwing it in the freezer, then forgetting about it.

It always smashes the bottle, which obviously isn't a problem for you.. however when defrosted some wines separate into a gloopy white sediment that really doesn't look very appealing, might taste fine, I've never tried it. And they always go really horrible and flat if they don't do that.

My tip: Take Red.

ok so ill lob another bottle of water in the freezer and put them next to my wine on the trip down should be ok

However. As long as you are not planning on guzzling the lot on the first day. It might be worth leaving the wine between the outer and inner part of the tent overnight. Your beverage will be nice and cold for breakfast the following morning.

Best thing to do is chuck the bag 'o' wine in the fridge and put in 3 cartons of fruit juice in the freezer along with 5 or 6 capri suns. Then on the morning when you leave, take it all out and put in a cool bag/box...lay 2 of the cartons on the base of the bool bag, put the bag of wine in and some beers/ciders...then slot the capri suns inbetween any gaps and one carton ontop of it all, hey presto, nice cold drinks that should stay that way for at least a few days!!

We swear by it every year!

EDIT: When the capri suns defrost, they are a nice refreshment for those morning hangovers and the fruit juices (eg, apple juice, orange juice) go amazingly well with Vodka once defrosted too!!
