...to clean a mess tin? After gorging on baked beans or any other sort of cheap tinned delight I cook up at festivals I always end up really struggling to clean the mess tins out properly.

So, anyone have any decent tips?

just stick to things that only need boiling water added to them in their own container like pot noodles, cous cous etc. that way the mess tin never gets dirty, festivals are too short to waste time scrubbing mess tins... infact just ditch the mess tins completely and get a little camping kettle as it will boil the water in half the time

The immediate off-the-top-of-the-head answer is ... don't :P Eeeewww and all that but a bit of penicillin or similar never hurt no one ... allegedly ! Closely followed by the reminder not to forget that beans and ready meals et al in general come in their very own tin for a very good reason of course :P But other than that, my solution to such issues is to always cook/warm stuff in it's original tin so you don't get baked/burnt on nastiness to contend with and therefore mess tins if subsequently used aren't too big a deal to clean up afterwards providing you clean them almost straight away with the hot water previously used for warming stuff up

except in many cases there is a lining on the inside of the tin which comes off and mixes with the contents if you just heat up the tin and its not very good for you :P

Cook them? Eat them cold at best. Hell, I'd mostly be staring at them wondering how the hell I open them til I wandered off and bought an oggie instead :P

Last year I took cornflakes and a bowl. I ate cornflakes once. Even dealing with milk was more hassle than my somewhat addled mind could deal with. At glastonbury everything I eat is accompanied by a serviet and a price tag these days...just too much of a slacker.
