The following is pure fantasy/wishful thinking just for a bit of fun but here goes

Just been listening to the original Stevie version of "Higher Ground" back to back with the Chili Peppers version, now personally, and I stress personally, I prefer the Chilis version although the original is cracking too and it got me thinking that it would be amazing if the Chilis joined Mr Wonder on stage for this track - again just my humble opinion

i don't think people dislike the Chili's (at least not to my knowledge. there may be a mas hate of them for all i know)

it's just that they'd never travel all the way to England purely for, not even one show, one SONG

plus, Stevie doesn't need them to collaborate. it's his song, and he performs it amazingly on his own

to be fair, John has been going down a very experimental route in his solo work lately so i think having a new guitarist could give them a new breath of fresh air

and yeah, couldn't get any worse than Stadium Arcadium / their latest live shows

here's hoping eh

they are for me

they are responsible for the very worst set i have seen, anywhere, ever

and you suggest the only time a large portion of fans will get to see a geniune legend be joined by these chancers, especially as the talented one has now left

that makes me mad

As it happens they were responsible for the most dissapointing set i've ever seen too but their early suff is great but (and this is not a personal pop at your opinion I promise - you're perfectly entitled to it) saying that the talented one has now left confuses/makes me mad (in a friendly banter kinda way :P ) I have been a bass player for over 20 years (and I damn fine one*) and also a drummer for over 10 years (again to a high standard, although admitedly not as good as I am a Bass player) and speaking as an extremley proficient musician (who can't spell :P ) I would have to say that Flea and Chad are one of the finest rhythm sections of any contemporary rock band and an excellent Bass Player and Drummer respectively.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not like a massive Peppers fan but I just think credit where credit id due, they were an extremley innovative band back in the day before they went all stadium rock on us.

*not being arrogant, just truthful

Got to agree with you 100%. Flea and Chad are both incredible.

I guess that's what made it such a disappointment that they were so crap live.

There aren't many bands these days where you could place maybe more than one member in a "Best of their Field" group, but RHCP have/had 3 out of 4.

Not bad at all. Only other group who beats that, in my opinion, is The Who in their heyday, 4/4.

EDIT: Just putting "in my opinion" in bold, so I don't get lynched with a "OMGZ U 4GOT LED ZEPZ!!!!!"

to be fair, everything up until and including By The Way was pretty awesome

Stadium Arcadium was just such a bad f*cking album, and they played all the worst songs from it live which made the whole experience worse

they've just grown into such a collosal band that they seem to be playing it overly safe, with no thrills or unexpected bits

shame considering they were once the band who wrote a six minute song called Sir Psycho Sexy about a guy who has sex with a policewoman, or even Purple Stain about fingering a girl whilst she's on her time of the month

bet stuff like that doesn't even cross their mind anymore and they prefer to right songs about snow and hey oh's. uck

must say i'm excited about their new album though, just to see where they go next

Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik are such an amazing threesome of albums

Exactly, I can understand that people will have different tastes in bands and music and to be fair to Tugger, his opinion was partly based on a poor live performance which I can understand but anyone who has an understanding of musicianship surely cannot fail to realize that, with the possible exception of Keidis, these guys are amongst the most innovative and proficient players in the history of rock music. Ask any bass player who has started playing in the last 20/25 years for their opinion on Flea and I bet the vast majority will cite him as an influence

Although the Jeff Beck for Superstition call is a good one, Stevie doesn't need any special guests. He's Stevie Wonder FFS - the guy is a genius.

Especially not the Chillies. That'd be like Ken Dodd supporting The Beatles.
