AC/DC Day Opinions?

I don't think we'd have any legal grounds to complain, but I certainly think that way.

Obviously they didn't promise a full day on Friday when we bought our tickets, but the event is sold as Download Festival so there is definitely an implied promise of more bands.

They would say(probably correctly) that AC/DC + 2 bands are big enough to be 'of equal value' to a full day, but music doesn't work like that.

Festivals are about choice/variety, not one band, so I certainly do not think the 3 days is worth £170 at all, more like £130 I think

I just messaged AC on twitter and asked if its just going to be the 3 bands mainstage on the friday and he replied "Maverick_AC @r0w84 It's not been decided yet...we're still working through things" ....which im taking in other words means "yes its just 3 bands mainstage on friday but we'l wait untill we shift more tickets before we hit you with the bad news" .....really does look like ACDC dont really wana be asociated with the festival and are just billing the friday as a big seperate ACDC gig at Donington.

Is it possible that AC/DC could've said they don't want more than 2 bands playing below them?

At the moment the Download organisers are in a brilliant position. People are getting used to the idea that there'll be no more bands added to the main stage so expectations are low. They could announce 2 pub bands below Wolfmother & people will be happy as they're 'seemingly' getting something they weren't previously. I seriously doubt anyone will be added above Wolfmother (who played Academy venues on their last tour) so IF someone gets added below it wont be a 'name' act.

Personally, it wont bother me too much as I'd be watching Unearth, 36 Crazyfists & ADTR probably anyway but if it stays like this people have an absolute right to be miffed. It's just an arena gig with a big headliner & 2 supports.

My main worry would be that if no more bands are announced for the main stage people are just going to get HAMMERED. This wont be a problem throughout the day but wait til the end of AC/DC when 100k+ people are all going in the same direction but are considerably more pissed than usual. It wouldn't be pleasant.

Still....I feel super happy for Unearth & 36 Crazyfists...They could be playing to the biggest audiences of their careers.

Looking back at previous gigs n stuff - ACDC at MK Bowl in 2001 with support from The Offspring, Queens Of The Stone Age, Megadeth all for £28.50!!!!! wow im pretty sure inflation hasnt risen 300% in 9years?? jesus shows u how much we get ripped off now!!.....and these people complain about illegally downloading music.....well screw u guys im gona download everything illegaly if u wana charge me rip-off prices to get into gigs/festivals! wow where did this rant come from

I imagine quite a few people wont even make it to the arena until late on on Friday anyway! Hey, at least we all get recovery time from the Thursday hangover!

I do see the point here though. They have got to be shit hot on security and crowd control filtering all of the 10's of thousands of people to and from mainstage as thats the only place with a headliner as such!!!

it will be interesting if there is only 3 bands. I have never been to a festival where the main stage has only run for half the day so it will be interesting to see what happens and how the crowd distributed around the festival site. I can guarantee the majority will not stand around watching the stage being built so would expect the other stages to become a nightmare.

Especially as its the first day of the festival. People are always keener to get down to the arena on the first day to have a look around.

even as far back as the monsters of rock days there have always been 6 bands playing so I can't seriously see it going ahead with 3 main stage acts. I think DL might lose too much credibility over that one.

Even the MK Bowl gigs had at least 4 bands. I'm holding out for Metallica being announced!

It's possible if not highly improbable.

As someone said on the DL forum, joking aside, it's not as far fetched as it might sound.

1. metallica are free

2. they're local

3. They would support DC and have confirmed this in an interview

4. It's being filmed for a dvd with extra revenue coming from that

5. With 4-5 bands being knocked off the bill could free up extra cash

Relive Donington 91 again! I know it would never happen but that said, I wouldn't be surprised if it did. Just extremely happy!!

yea they've changed there slot on the slide show to the posters :S i f**king love ACDC but atm it does look as though its going to be a 2 day festival with a DC gig on the friday. brilliant in my opinion but shitty for the people who want choice.

As I've said, I know the reason for this AC/DC centric day, I'm not allowed to say what it is, but let's just say no one on here has got it right so far. If anyone feels they've established themselves on these boards enough for me to trust them with this info, PM me and I'll tell you what I know.

It's the reason the mainstage looks like an AC/DC gig.

Not a particularly good piece of news depending on your viewpoint - ie if any more bands are added it will be an absolute maximum of 2, but that's incredibly unlikely.

I'm guessing AC/DC are doing some sort of longer set? Maybe 2 hours or so?

I know you cant say...but that would be my guess/the only way they could warrant 3 bands.

And even that doesnt really warrant it.
