AC/DC Day Opinions?

Personally I think they have gone a bit far with it all. I think if the festival has had to do all this to get AC/DC to play then it does show that their ego's are too big perhaps? That they need something different to what is fine for a long list of extremely successful bands that have headlined and played before.

my hopes for the friday at download have sunk a little after seeing the recent line up and the huge picture sat there. That has let me down a little.

Ive been trying to put a positive spin on all the negative floating around especially regarding the last announcement. But as much as i want to see AC/DC i didnt want it at the expense of an entire day of Download being cut in half.

id also much rather NOT have 100,000 people in one place - it doesnt feel safe in the slightest.

Are you all kidding? its gna be f**kin aw awesome! its AC f**kin DC.

I cant believe Download have one of the biggest bands in the world coming with all their own shit set up to do possibly the biggest stage show on DL history (yes it means less bands playing the main stage Friday) n so many people are bitchin bout it.

Ok I've just seen the huge picture on the lineup poster. This is really starting to take the piss now, I want a festival, not an AC/DC gig.

Also if Friday is the celebration day for monsters of rock, why do we have the old crap bands on the Sunday too?

Has anyone clicked on more info and had a look, It says the arena opens at 12 mid day and will close at approximately 10:30pm! that's an early finish considering there's no other bands on or doe's that just mean entry will only be permitted up to 10:30?

has a point though to an extent, they've obviously gone, f**k me 2009 was a success thanks to classic rock sunday, let's do more of it! I'm no metalhead and think they've gone ott on the classic bands, the irony of it all is that 2009 had the balance just right, with friday having a few nostalgic 90's acts on, saturday was a more traditional download day and sunday with classic rock.

haha yeah sorry maybe 'old crap' was a little opinionated/ignorant of me.

But the fact remains that if the Friday doesn't see any more bands on the main stage we now only have one day of modern/relevant bands playing the main stage.

I'd have no problem with any of those bands playing if only they'd put them under AC/DC and let some newer bands play beneath Aerosmith/STP/Motorhead I'd be happy -if Friday is the 'celebrating 30 years of Monsters of Rock' day as it says on the poster, I don't think it's right that the Sunday does it too.

And on the Sonisphere thing I have always been a fan of Download, but if this is the way Download is going to carry on trying to out-compete Sonisphere again next year I may well change my alliegance.

The second, third and fourth stages are practically dedicated to newer and younger bands though :/. You're just being greedy :P.

I'm not particually fond of the classic rock theme, but I don't want to judge what the line up does and doesn't offer with approx 7 more mainstage acts, 14 second stage and 2 more stages 0_o.

As has been said plenty of times too anyway, there really arn't many modern bands going around who can be stuck high on the mainstage and sell tickets, only one I can think of touring at the moment is Mastodon if they're to avoid repeat bookings.

The more I think about this, the more I dislike it. A lot of people dislike AC/DC, I really like them tbh - but this isnt 'DCFest, its download. And the lack of choice is very disappointing.

Everyone was quite positive about soni last year - claiming that it would be great for punters if the promoters had a bit of competition, well imho that has not proven to be the case. we have 2 seperate festies competing in a pretty shallow gene pool to put together a great bill. the punters havent won, because we would really need to go to both festivals to see the best selection of the best bands.

but thats a bit off topic.

my main peeve is that the friday is being marketed as an ac/dc gig - almost seperate from the festival. check the "see more" link on the ac/dc poster on the lineup page, the word "download" only appears once. even the link is called http://www.acdc-donington.co.uk/home/

it's almost as if they are saying we'll take the money to pay but in no way do we want it promoted as a day at download. It's an audience with ACDC, we're running the show, thats all you need to know.

I'm hoping the main stage fills out and with decent bands as well. The more I hear the more it sounds like an acdc gig rather than a festival.

It wouldn't suprise me to see the download stage graphics come down also. Especially if it's for a dvd.

Its fine with it being branded as ACDC, after all one day of it was branded as Ozzfest just a few years ago.

But i want more than three bloody bands to play it.
