Not being funny, but I can't remember the last World Cup where England qualified where they didn't get past the first group stage.

I don't suppose you are old enough to remember the good old days where people used to take the piss out of the Scottish for never getting past the first round. The glory years, hey .... :P

Footie - I can't see any good reason why it shouldn't be shown on the big screens if it's on on the Wednesday / Thursday.

Shouldn't be shown at the expense of a band during Friday - Saturday - Sunday. I don't think folk will leave the site. It's too much hassle.

We should all be used to England losing by now anyway. lets face it we are not very good, we wont win the world cup and we will have some outrageous piece of bad luck to blame for our inevitable defeat. surely you all get how it works by now

John Terry will get sent off in the semi-final for a gratuitous elbow, we will pluckily get to pens and lose and Terry will be met next season by chants of 'You let your country down.'

Then we will all go back to real i.e. club football and forget about the bunch of tosspots that is the England team for the next two years.

Actually England are very good. Given the number of people in the country, and the fact that football is now established in many many countries, England tend to punch above their weight to an extent.

Not as much above their weight as compared to the Italians, but about their weight regardless.

For a country of this size with the amount of money flowing about in football we should be much better. we dont have anyone even close to world class, our last great player was gazza.

I dont personaly think that there will be any particular trouble if (when) football is shown but I do think that it will affect the atmosphere, probably positively if you are a fan (depending on how England do) and negatively if you dont give a flying f**k about soccer like me.

The point is that this thread is about all televised world cup matches on during the festival being shown. A few of us at the start of this thread took the pee a bit asking if you wanted Eastenders or Corrie to be shown as well, ironic but not without a point, you are asking for part of the festival to be turned over (for however long, dont know how many games will be played in the time) to showing whats on tele, lets be honest, you will not be at a football match you will be watching a big television, so seriously, this is not a football or sport event so where should it stop?

Why is football different except that you are personaly passionate about it?

England games, ok. But no more.

watching on telly with a potential crowd bigger than that at the stadium itself. so, although we will be watching it on the telly, it will certainly have the feel of being at a game in some way.

i'm sure the same will be happening in london and manchester and birmingham with big screens.

the same won't be happening for coronation street or the bill as there will not be the demand for it.

    • Is she any bigger than last time? Still firmly a sub for me. Not sure the interest would be as strong for her headlining.
