Hi all

I'm after some advice from some glasto veterans please. Here's my dilema - me and hubby have tickets booked for this years festival, we've only paid the deposit at the mo but obviously balance is due in few weeks. We've never been glasto before and we're really looking forward to it, however last weekend I found out that I was pregnant!!! We really don't know what to do - do we pay the balance or not? I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who's been to glasto when pregnant. We've been to festivals before so kind of know what to expect but could do with some more detailed info on glasto.

Cheers very muchly

X

So you'll be about 6 months gone, is that right? I think you will be fine - the one thing I would say is there is a LOT of walking involved - try and avoid this! Maybe plan so that you spend time in one section each day, not moving around too much, with the crowds and possible mud and hills and general knackerdness.

I actually found just sitting around in the green fields, watching the festival revlve around me, was fantastic (the kids were in the sauna, and I sat and listened to some guys chatting about Cherie Blair and solar energy, and how it always rains on Friday. I also saw that the tent selling solar panels had sold out by Friday, and watched the girl opposite me make a complete hash of rolling a joint. I think I sat for about 4 hours, when I got up my leg muscles had wasted away.)

Talk to the always amazing medical folk, and just take it easy - you don't need to see and do everything, I think you'll have a brilliant time.

I wouldn't recommend it past about 8 months, just from the safety/medical point of view, but I know people do and are fine. but a friend of mine went into labour a month early, had to be rushed to hospital and have an emergency casesarian.

I think much past the 6/7 month stage is too close, plus you will feel like someone strapped a block of flats to your stomach and is stomping on your bladder like a Frenchman making wine. No fun.

Congratulations by the way, well exciting for you guys!

Hi buttonmoon - well, I am one of the loons who's planning on going heavily pregnant this year, I'm due July 29th, so I'll be almost 8 months by then!!!

I really wasn't sure at first, thinking I was being very naive, but I'm about 98% sure we'll be paying the balance this month now.

From the advice I've gathered, the medical staff on-site are great, get yourself pitched then go and visit the medical centre so they can check you over and make a note of where you're camping (grid reference) should you need them at any stage. Remember that there are better medical facilities at Glasto than anywhere in the country outside of a hospital, and lots of people around to help should anything happen!

I think as it's your first time going, you will miss out on a lot, I intend being sat in the green fields/the park/circus for most of the day being fed and watered by my husband, going back for a snooze in the tent/camper (yet to be sorted for sure) then moved to the back of the Pyramid stage for the evenings. But then it'll be our 7th glasto this year, so I don't mind that so much.

Don't intend seeing the entire festival, it's hard enough to expect when you're not pregnant! I intend it being a very chilled out affair, as it should be, but we usually have the odd march across site when a band is on that we want to see, we won't be doing that this year.

I say that as long as you're prepared not to see and do many things that you'd like to, and don't worry about seeing every act you want to see, you'll be fine. Will you be going with other friends?

perhaps we should have a preggers meet :P

(I'm also contemplating a chair, which is just a shockingly horrible thought for me, I hate people sitting in chairs in front of stages!!! Good excuse though, I will be of mammoth proportions by then :P)

Me again.

Regards camping, we're hoping to borrow a camper from a friend, just sorting it out now, which means we'll be in the campervan field, so a little walk each day, but a bed to sleep in at the end of it.

If we do end up camping, here's my advice for the necessities:

1 - tent with some standing room (you will have a bad back, if not at the start, then by the end)

2 - double-thickness air mattress (for ease of getting onto)

3 - bucket/potty for middle of the night loo needs (you don't want to be traipsing to the loo in the middle of the night, over all the guy ropes, hard enough not pregnant, impossible while pregnant and with full bladder and baby kicking at it)

If we're camping, I'm going to camp in the family field.

As everyone has said above.

If you do go then just take everything in your stride - don't rush around, don't get stressed, take things slowly. I have to say that I am the most relaxed for the whole year when I'm at Glastonbury and I'm sure if you get that relaxed there it'll be great for the baby! :P

Tricky one.

I go to Glasto alone but we have Camp Bestival tickets which would fall at about seven months and are in the same boat as to whether to go or not, However good the medical facilities are it is still min three nights in a tent or camper which is undoubtedly not going to be as comfortable as home and facilities not as easily accessible.

Whatever you decide hope it all goes well!

My wife will be 7 months preggers (due 15th of August). We've seen plenty of heavily pregnant women there before so we're confident we'll be able to cope. We're in a camper for the first time this year so hopefully she'll be able to get a decent nights kip.

I'm sure my wife would love a pregnant meet!

There certainly seems to be a big crew of you preggers ladies (pardon the pun!) :P A meet is a great idea. But perhaps not at the Cider Bus! :P There's some lovely spots in the Greenfields away from the hordes that would probably suit. Lunched Out Lizards has some lovely huge sofas just off from Pennards field.

Hiya

Well I was 8 months in 2004 (he was due 24th July). My feet were so swollen the only shoes I could wear were sandals and wellies - which is exactly what I needed - it started sunny and then got muddy that year

The main problem was taking so long to get anywhere as my waddle was a bit slow by then and my feet were sore, that and frequent trips to the loos, which is never a pleasure!!

But it was great. I'm sure all the squatting helped him along as he arrived only 2 weeks after getting home :P

You really do need a chair or stool though, as your feet will hurt, and its very hard to get off a floor when you're that shape. If its muddy well a chair is a must (get hubby to carry it for you)

If you'll be 6 months you'll be fine and dandy, its towards the end of 2nd trimester when you're at your most glowing - well past all the sickness feelings (which isn't advised with the longdrops!) and before the onset of the exhaustion and whale-ness of the last few months

But don't forget to bring your little one to next glasto - we bought our baby boy at 11 months, and in fact he's been with us every year since. I've not managed to get a ticket this year though so if anyone has any news on when the returns are getting sold that would be super!

anyway hope you all have a super one and good luck with the birth and all that!!

xx

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi! I'm not pregnant, but just thought I'd add my support. I did the hottest year ever - 1995 at 7 months and one of the wettest years - 1998 at 7 and a half months. Both were fine, but inclined to sit down more often. In the dry it's fine, but when it's wet, it gets tricky - I would recommend a lightweight chair to take around with you. Carry plenty of water and loo roll!

Have a great festival all you blooming Mums-to-be!

I am another of the mad women who will be doing glasto 8 months pregnant, i'm due 31st July.

I'm camping to. I'm looking forward to it, its defonatly going to be different this year to all the other years i have been. The advise i have been given so far is to buy a good blowup materess rather than a camp bed. I had been going to get the camp bed but i've been told that they are difficult to move on & unstable when you have a huge bump. I think i may get two single matteress instead of 1 double for me & the OH.

I think i'm gona take a bucket for the tent this year for night time toilet trips, i doubt i will be able to "go" in a lenor bottle this year.

I'm very much expecting to be doing alot of sitting in the same place than the various huge treaks across site this year. Its going to be such a different festival. I cant wait to bring my nearly 1 year old next year too.
