The Cure, what are the chances

Basically never really been into them but one of my mates has this year been going on so been listening away and really want to see them now.

My understanding is they've headlined 3 times already???? and there's a Michael Eavis comment regarding them not playing or was it just headlining again?

Just wondering if they could potentially be the kind of band that will be playing a suprising lower spot just to play?

I'm actually just asking this question, rather than basing it on half evidence, as I have no knowledge on them to make any kind of judgement.

Very unlikely, unfortunately. They arent either together as a 'band' at the moment but I wouldnt much into that as they always split up between tours and if they invited to play then can easily chuck themselves together for a one off.

Also Eavis said they were crap a few years back (why book them to headline so many times then?) after they asked to play.

I would say its even more unlikely that they would play low down as they headline everything they do.

They also like to play for 3+ hours and are notorious for breaking curfews, like the Coachella incident last year.

I have not seen him at all and my dad just said that he'd said they're not together at the moment and he's working on a new band or something

Ah right, I thought they played the NME awards last year (could be mis-remembering that) so just assumed they were still about.

Like I said was asking out of general curiosity, rather than the threads optimistically hoping the original Beatles line up will make a surprise appearance

If they play long sets like you say though, I'd guess it's pretty certain they won't play then (plus if Eavis called them crap).

Oh ok, thanks for that . Thats pretty odd, last time he did that he went and joined Page and Plant and ended playing with them under the The Cure at Glasto 95!

It depends which way you look at it, you could say they are the perfect headliner as they'd get the crowd going without forcing it, a trick that Radiohead have also adapted to over the years.

Plenty of people see Coldplay, Radiohead, Bowie as definitive headliners due to their numerous appearances and really the same can be said for The Cure.

er mmmm. ... while I've not seen or not seen enough of Coldplay, Radiohead, Bowie to know if they can wake up a crowd, I know trhat The Cure can't.
