I do think it was a letdown, and I've championed the show so much over the years when people called it over the top etc. I do think though, one problem the writers are facing is, what? in the confines of the imagination, could they come up with in order to satisfy the audience enough? They've gone all ethereal and other-worldly, with the light and stuff, and I think thats probably the best way. Definitely a let down in terms of the creation of the black smoke though.

I am very content after seeing this episode.

I actually hope they don't explain everything. They did that with Star Wars and it was a f*cking failure.

The more I think about the episode, the more I think it was an absolute masterstroke.

The restraint and conviction the writers have for their direction under so much pressure from fans and probably the network execs pushing them to lay all the cards on the table is really admirable.

There was SO MUCH in that episode I liked. The parralels with Star Wars and the Bible runs deeper than I thought (twins, the Obi-Wan/Anakin rivalry, the push into the dark side, Satan/Adam&Eve falling from the grace of God) . I loved the fact there was a well of secrets that would answer your questions but ultimately leave you unsatisfied, craving more, and that it was the 'dark side' in everyone was absolutely on the money. I am loving the shades of grey, and how you can relate to all the characters, and despair when they are forced to conflicts of their ideals. Every character is sympathetic.

I guess man-in-blacks unnofficial name is now Adam, seeing as that was who Adam was all along.

It did seem to raise more questions than it answered:

Is the black smoke Jacob's brother, or is he using his form the same way he's using Locke's?

Why/how does Jacob's touch stop people from dying?

What is "the light"?

Why did Jacob's brother know that wheel would get him off the island?

Why/how is Jacob's brother "special"?

Why does Jacob need a replacement, and why he have special "powers"?

Why did they conveniently not include Jack's line about how the two corpses looked like they'd been there 40-50 years? Surely it was longer than that!

Hopefully we'll get more flashbacks/information to answer some of those questions in the run in to the finale.

a theory I read on ABC forums was that Black Smoke was there all along, manipulating Adam to getting pushed into the light (Controlling his Mother to kill all those people, black smoke stylee etc)...which puts a different spin on it. Black smoke isn't a manifestation of Adam, but was there all along, and merely inhabits him.

Anyone know if Widmore is gonna get a flashback episode? I'd be interested to see what his motivation is, as well as how he seems to know so much about TMIB. Also, an explanation of how they knew to build the fences to keep him out would be interesting!

so it's what, one episode and one double to go.

as much as i've loved it, i'm unhappy with the lack of ben recently. throughout the series, i was hoping he would have played a much bigger role in the unravelling of the story.

so........

Are we to assume that the smoke monster inhabited MIB body once Jacob had killed him?

If this is the case will they ever tell us what the f**k the smoke monster is?

see i had just assumed that he hadn't died and that he had become the smoke monster which mother had said was 'worse than death' or along those lines. but then when you find out that he actually did die and became 'adam', then it kinda brings about even more confusion.
