The "shot" at Sonisphere is a bit petty, but overall this is awesome news. Finally a headliner worthy of the title at download - after last years 3 weaker headliners imo. At the moment I'll probably just day ticket it though - unless the other headliners are good, and the undercard is strong. Its a good start though :P

Also is it just me or is this "leak" a little fishy? Seems to me like it may have been intentional. They needed something to detract all the hype around sonispheres current lineup and the big 4 news - in a sense to try and steal a share of its thunder. If they made it an official announcement, many would moan if it was just the 1 headliner announced right now (even if it is AC/DC). Whereas a leak (especially with a band as big as them), they are less likely to get flak for it, and there'd be a bit more buzz.

I actually feel giddy. If the other headliners are what's rumoured Download will be kicking everyone else's arse next year. I know the 'wow factor' of seeing Metallica might have gone as they've been pretty prolific over the last few years but they never fail to put on a storming show, the opening of 'Sad But True' always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up & the singalongs will be quality. If it is Pearl Jam on the Saturday I'll be ecstatic, probably my favourite band (apart from Public Enemy) & another amazing live act...now I aint gay but I'd f**k Eddie Vedder. If PJ play look around for a 6ft 1, tattoed bloke with a skinhead crying tears of joy like a teenage girl at a Jonas Bros show.

Van Halen are rumoured on efests too, so I can see that one happening.

Rammstein are exclusive on Soni now though, I think it was clear Download were chasing them and supposedly Soni swooped in at the last minute to take them from Downloads grasp. So er, I guess it's back to the drawing board for Download now, seems like Pearl Jam are playing HRC though so I'm out of ideas for a headliner :/.

There really ain't alot of bands going around touring at the moment, Blink 182 would be a good catch for Download but if they get them then Reading and Leeds really looks to be struggling 0_o.

Hope if VanHalen play it's on the Saturday. Then I can watch the England match without missing anyone I want to see!

Shouldn't have a swipe at the 'big 4' since all of them have played Download at some point at I'd imagine Mr Copping would have booked them again if they had offered their services. This whole Download/Sonisphere bickering is very petty. It's good for us punters though as it makes for healthy competition as they bid to out do each other for revenue.

Now Download, Get Rage Against the Machine and we'll talk ticket prices...

Further "evidence" of their appearance is in the latest Kerrang. It comes with a free calendar that has Iron Maiden for August (Sonisphere), Green Day for July (TITP) and AC/DC for June. Maybe I'm reading too much into it though...

    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
    • Dug into Milkweed some more and this was a brilliant suggestion. Thank you 🙂   This will come as no surprise, but I have been told that there are some band substitutions to come.
    • Yeah, I think it's important to differentiate between a stage that's just a platform for the artist to walk on (which can be assembled fairly quickly and without too much difficulty), and the custom staging that you get in big productions where there's a whole world underneath.   Using the Eras tour as an example the stage extending out into the stadium field has all sorts - lifts that go up or down - down most importantly as this allows performers to enter or to leave the stage as needed. There's passageways to get from one part of the stage to another. There's what are effectively dressing rooms set aside for costume changes. There's spare instruments (and techs to look after them) so if something goes wrong above they can be swapped out in the space of seconds. There's even a track and dolly system running the full length of the stage so that Taylor can be moved from one end to the other faster than she'd be able to walk.   I don't know the specifics of the Madonna tour to the same degree but my understanding is that a lot of the same techniques are used.
