Lecture you? LOL. I also know full well what R&B is. The point you chose to miss is that the current usage of that term bears little or no resemblance to it's original meaning. Likewise the term Heavy Metal has also drifted from its origins.

But I'm not sure I understand the point you were trying to make. Is it that they couldn't be subsequently labeled as Heavy Metal as they formed before the term was coined? If so could you let me know what the rule is exactly that you are using?

I'm saying that the variety of styles of music that Zep made - from folk, blues, rock, reggae, rock n'roll, country, all of those tings - means that calling them a Heavy Metal band is ridiculous. Unless in the 70s the term Heavy Metal meant folk, blues, rock, reggae, rock n'roll, country etc.

It's a wrongly applied tag. You are wrong to call them heavy metal. Unless by heavy metal you mean folksy, bluesy, rocky, reggae, rock n'rolly, countrified sounds.

I can't think of any Heavy Metal band that comes close to covering the range that Zeppelin did...

I'm sure what most people think of as Heavy Metal, is hardly touched by them

they didn't make any reggae albums, but they did play at least one reggae song (not very well, admitedly)

But how long does it take to prepare for a show/tour? JPJ is with Crooked Vultures touring til at least March. 3 months sounds like enough time to rehearse etc., but these things always take longer than expected.

Whatever happens, it's on a knife edge. There's just as many reasons for LZ to play as there are for them not to play. At least we can be hopeful though. These rumours are usually quashed as soon as they pop up so being hopeful for so long is a good sign in itslef.
