hey there,

so next year (2010) is my first time at glasto, am super excited because i am coming all the way from Australia to go! So was just wondering you hear all this stuff about drug taking and what not, but i don't really want to be surrounded by high people and i was wondering if it is actually anthing like that?

not trying to be a killjoy, i'm all for people doing what they want, i am just a littler scared!

It's nothing like what you've heard.

If you don't want to be involved or surrounded by it then you don't have to be - it's easy to stay away! Yeah you'll see the odd middle aged man dressed up in a pink fairy outfit floating through the crowd falling over and hugging people in a pilled-up flurry, the odd un-educated or un-informed young person tripping out after doing something stupid/outside of his or her comfort zone, and lots of moving jaws in the dance tents but in general, it's not as if it's going on everywhere.

don't let it worry you, if you're having a great time, you'll hardly notice it, and hey, who knows, you might try something new you like! :)

I'll second what everyone has said. It don;t notice if anyone has taken anything - pockets of people maybe, and there was a 'nasty' group of people taking all sorts of stuff by us during Kasabian last year, you could feel the tension brewing so we just moved away- but that was 5 minutes over the course of 5 days - the rest of the time everyone was happy, chilled and having fun causing no problems whether they were under the influence or not

The other thing you will notice is a price difference in pills, they're a lot cheaper in the UK, so if you want to save a few bucks try them here.

This post made me laugh!

I imagine a strapping Aussie Bondi beach type, quivering and cringing amongst the rampant hordes of drugged up Brits at Glastonbury!

"Stay away! For the love of Fosters, Ramsay Street and The Wiggles, keep away from me!"

I'm sorry. Everyone carry on being soothing now.

Drug taking at Glastonbury seems so much less blatant than it was, so i really wouldn't worry about it at all. Not that being surrounded by people on drugs is generally much to be worried about, it's the people after pints and pints of 'pear cider' that tend to cause the problems from what I've seen.

Even then, worst i had last year was being caught for 10 minutes by a bloke trashed on Brothers crying on my shoulder about his divorce. Bit of a buzzkill to be fair.

Just keep away from the Stone Circus, Dance Area, Brothers Bar, and that awful corner where Shangri La is & you'll be fine

Seriously, if you don't look too close you won't see very much to trouble you, with the possible exception of the Stone Circle after dark.

am i the only person who thought the real purpose of this thread was more along the lines of 'will there be loads of drugs available when i get to the festival....'

(no personal dig at you OP, more a reflection of my twisted mind!)

Mate, you should have been at Stonehenge 30 years ago. Walking up the main drag and all you could see were Smack & Black hot knives, Aceeeed, Weed, Hash cakes etc. signs. All with the police about 100 yards away but banished from the site.

Yeah it completly doesn't have an effect on your time, there's just a constant smell of marijuana in there, which adds to the atmosphere :)

The only negative experience ive had with someone taking drugs was on the bus there last year, some camp manc was snorting coke, shouting at the top of his lungs and constantly sneezing on the window, gross.
