Hi all,

First went to glasto in 86 then most years up until my last which was 95, I watched it go downhill over the years and only went in 95 cos it was 25 year anniversary.

Once it got into the 90's I noticed a different crowd attending, the dance and E craze was going wild and took over the night time scene.

I always preferred the spaced out, colourful, mellow vibe of the 80's... ;o)

Now glasto 40 year anniv is on us and also me and mates 40th the same year. We both got early teenage kids and we want go for a 40th blow out and the kids want to experiance glasto that we all been talking about for years.

I can tell by watching it on telly that it has changed beyond recognition, or has it....?

Are there any old school heads reading this who know what I'm on about...?

Is there any of the 80's festival vibe still at glasto, or has it all been ousted in favour of fashion, trend and vast profits.....?

If you went in the 80's and stonehenge etc. then you know what i mean, is there any of it left and if yes where can I find it.?

cheers

x

Hard to tell as we've grown older too and what we found acceptable in the 70s or 80s we may not want today or vice versa.

I feel Glasto has aged with me and I'm fairly comfortable with what it has grown into. Yes there are bits that don't suit me but that's fine - there's enough to please everyone.

It may have lost some of the 'edge' but I actually prefer it since the fence - less chance of having your tent done over - and still a good place to chill.

Only started going mid-90s, not e-fuelled I would add. I suspect you may find festivals like Sunrise more like the 80s efforts, but I reckon you'll find pockets of 80s-effect at Glasto it you're willing to come early and explore, eg in the Green Fields. Plus after such a gap and with yourself getting older, you may like many other bits too. & your kids will like yet other aspects. Come with an open, inquizitive mind and enjoy :D

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
