That's sad. The last times I've seen them, they were good. The first was on the Steel Wheels tour at Wembley, and the second was at Twickenham about six or seven years ago. Angus and Malcolm came on stage and jammed Little Red Rooster, I think it was. Brilliant.

It was a million times worse actually being there, believe me. Never before has a band been such a let down.

Who would have thought that Sympathy for the Devil could ever sound shit? Somehow they achieved it. Gutted.

I want to see an act at Glasto that I wouldn't get to see any other time (and the price the Stones charge for their concerts falls into that category).

Stones for Glasto? F**k yes - get them booked, Michael. It would be terrific. I have never seen them, always wanted to. Yes, they're old. No, they're not as good as they used to be. But they're the f**king Rolling Stones - dancing like a c**t to some classic tracks under the lights of the Pyramid Stage would be awesome.

I don't particularly care about their 'spirit' being 'wrong' for the festival either. Sod it - they'd be a great headliner. I can deal with the ethical side of it at 3am the following morning when I'm pissed off my tits lying on my tent looking up at the stars with the closing riff to Brown Sugar rolling around inside my extremely dizzy head.

A resounding YES from the Wolf over here.

EXACTLY the song I was thinking of from that show. I remember watching it and thinking: "No, oh no". For those who aren't too squeamish, here it is. "A funk band". In the shit sense of the word.

However, I'll fight you, naked if needs be, to the death regarding that comment. <_<

This is cool - plenty of negativity towards the Stones. Seems like I'll have no problems getting to the front, and there might be a few less bastard flags.

i'm really not going to get into this, but it seems pretty obvious to me that the stones really loved and revered the old blues musicians and went out of their way to get them over to the UK on tour etc and reslly helped popularise them in the early 60s.

the fact that they literally stole old blues tunes, and gave themselves the songwriting credits for them. You did know that, didn't you?

The Stones on the other hand, went out of their way, and bent over backwards to make sure the original artist got full credit and became more popular than they'd ever been before because of them.

my judgement is clouded cos I can't f**king stand Led Zep. Dreary old bollocks. whereas there's a load of stones' songs that get my heart pumping just with the intros

I quoted the whole paragraph because I didn't want to be acused of taking it out of context. I only repsonded to that line becuase that was the point I was taking issue with (is that ok by you? <_< ). I'm in general agreement with the rest of what you're saying... sorry if that confuses it for you

My susbstantive, and consistent, point is that they are the biggest corproate whores in the industry and I would prefer them to get no nearer to Glastonbury Festival than the Isle of Wight (or any other commercial gig). I'm glad you agree with that. <_<

Time for another Stones fan to pop up to argue that they don't care that they are commercial whores, that they are a corporation, not a rock 'n' roll band, that they are well past their use by date, that they are an embarrassing pastiche and caricature of their former selves and have been for more than 30 years now, and yet it would still make their year to see them perform. Oh yeah, and to admit that they don't give a fig about the Glastonbury ethos.

I like a lot of Stones tracks, and agree with Mardy about them vs Led Zeppelin - but Holy crap, how OLD are these bands? The Stones now are laughable, there's no way a die hard fan should want to see them - it's just not right!

It's would be like watching your nan getting her tits out after too much brandy on Christmas day.

It became a multi million pound corporation as a consequence of what they did. All they wanted to do in the beginning was play the blues, and give the original artists as much credit (and exposure) as they could. I don't see that as ripping the artists off...

minor semantics?..

just the truth.

Are you still standing by your claim they they ripped the artists off?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
