Ball Lightening?

Another possibility.

There are two main theories. I found this on line:

Government Conspiracy:

Black unmarked helicopters with tinted windows and powerful searchlights are often seen during a cattle mutilation wave. Some believe the government is conducting top secret chemical warfare experiments.

 Not all that top secret then.

Extraterrestrial experiments:

The absence of tracks and the coinciding UFO reports suggest this is a sinister plan performed by aliens. Evidence at the scene suggest that the cattle were taken elsewhere by air, mutilated, and then dropped back near to where they were taken. UFOs are usually seen in the vicinity of cattle mutilations and some ranchers have reported seeing a UFO abducting the cattle in their fields.

There are more evidences to support this theory: cattle mutilations often occur in UFO hotspots such as New Mexico, and near Area 51, Nevada. Two separate alien abductees have reported, under regressive hypnosis, seeing cattle taken into the alien craft and mutilated. The researchers speculate that the extra terrestrials could use the removed organs and blood to create human blood plasma and perform genetical engineering and transplantation.

I'm not saying I believe these theories but they are certainly interesting.

 From animals? Wouldn't it be easier just to abduct humans?

I think purple monkey and mahdnyw could be closer to the mark. :)

Ball Lightening?

But why would ball lightening happen during many mutilation cases? This is interesting:

"Phil Hoyle, who has spent a decade investigating how the livestock have died, spoke of seeing bright red lights during an investigation. "The lights kept changing shape and emitting beams of light and small spheres that covered large areas. At times the spheres would morph into different shapes firing beams to the ground and discharging small spheres that darted backwards and forwards as though they were looking for something. During the sighting beams of light would be fired and for a short while it looked more like a Star Wars battle by two

opposing forces. A narrow white beam then passed down the hill and at times we thought the red spheres not only knew where we were there but they were watching us. These spheres are clearly not Chinese lanterns and do not conform to any known conventional aircraft or meteorological manifestation.”

Have you read the report and tried to match it to the video clips they've put online? I'm all for a good conspiracy theory but when people come out with crap like this it screws up the chances of getting to the bottom of it.

The videos are not good on the website its true, but this is just one case out of thousands of others. The documentary film Silent Killers by Richard D Hall is worth watching as is Strange Harvest by Linda Moulton Howe. The fact is these events happened and no-one has ever been able to explain them.

The 'burnt red' lights in the video are white. They were shot during a surveillance operation specifically set up to capture this sort of thing by people who have been doing this for 12 years and that's the best they can do?

I haven't seen those fims but I'll look out for them. I'm sure there'll be questions to be asked.

I have recorded this and will watch it later, but its good to see the History Channel taking this subject seriously..there are so many religions and legends that talk about “gods coming down from the skies” that I’ve always believed we have been visited many times in the past. I don’t know if this was shown on the programme but these Egyptian hieroglyphics are very interesting:

http://www.catchpenny.org/abydos.html

I'd love it to be the case that all God concepts are based on alien visitations.

But I think it far more likely that our cultural image of the unexplained has evolved from gods coming down from the skies (maybe other, taller, more advanced human invaders?), to ghosts, to our current obsession with sci-fi phenomena - alien visitations.

Given our cultural development, it's no coincidence that gods are being replaced by extra terrestrials in order to provide an explanation for the inexplicable. It's a huge leap to conclude that if there are unexplained cattle mutilations, then this must be down to alien experiments (official sources deny that there's anything other than natural forces accurring here, though conspiracy theorists refuse to accept official explanations) - if there is something strange going on which we can't explain, where's the evidence for extraterrestrial involvement?

I don’t think people are saying there is definitely an extraterrestrial explanation, just that the incidents cannot be explained and this is one possibility due to the surgical nature of the mutilation and unexplained complete draining of the blood. The surgical type wounds seem to be caused by an intense heat. As Linda Moulton Howe who has researched this for many years says, abnormally high radiation levels have been detected near the dead animals, there are no footprints, and sightings of UFOs and unmarked black helicopters coincide with most cases. Another reported event is that the animal is found 'dumped' in an area where there are no marks or tracks leading to or from the carcass, and cattle owners have reported seeing strange objects hovering over the fields where dead cattle were later discovered.

As for official sources denying anything strange is going on, well they would say that, wouldn’t they!

Rather than both being based upon projections of the human mind in an attempt to construct transcendental narratives to raise our own futility above the only certainty in existence?

p.s. I've just been dumped ;)

I think the difficulty is finding an impartial investigator. And accepting that the findings are impartial.

:(

So let me see if I can translate that into feral-speak. We need to take our minds off our pointless existence with only death to look forward to, so invent romantic tales of something bigger and better than us?

i agree, but at least in the old days the gods used to have sex with humans. Now it's all torture, mutilation and anal probes. :(

No, romance is an essential precept of the human condition - it's why we have inequality. Rather, we need to project the meaning of our egotistical mind onto the empty canvas of the abyss, lest we see everything as meaningless.

i.e. as a child I fear my father's wrath, ergo, there is a father in heaven hallowed by thy name.

Yeah, it also spawned the concept of heros, from which we've seen wars justified for millenia.

ok, so following on from that, when we were visited by gods who mated with our women, we feared having the women of our tribes stolen by stronger mates.

I get that. Fatherhood again really.

but what fear are we projecting now then? Homophobia (anal probes)? Powerlessness, obviously - but nearly all the unofficial theories revolve around experimentation

Femininity.

Femininity.

I don't know if i can see that. Anal probes, scientific experimentation, surgical extraction aren't traditionally seen as feminine activities, so the threat doesn't seem to be feminine.

Could be sublimated sexual violation fears though - probes, surgical invasion etc.

Back to these theories: the Government could surely conduct experiments privately without leaving the carcasses to be discovered. And why would aliens go to the trouble of first removing the bodies, then bothering to dump them back where they took them?

neither of those theories really make sense.

I think they've run experiments where just leaving a dead animal lying around leaves the same kinds of wounds that have been found - it's to do with the body bloating and the skin splitting open, and the organs just get eaten.

But they haven't been able to explain or replicate the absence of blood at the scene of these 'mutilations'.

And personally, I can't believe that all these farmers are getting hysterical over this when they're just dealing with dead livestock. They must see dead animals all the time. So they must be seeing something out of the ordinary to comment on it.

Here’s something else bizarre:

Officials in Arkansas are investigating the sudden deaths of up to 5,000 blackbirds and around 100,000 fish over the weekend. The blackbirds fell out of the sky just before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Local residents described the scene as “like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie” and “spooky”. One resident said: 'I asked these guys who are out here picking them up and they don't seem to know anything. It just kind of freaked everybody out”.

Could it be due to some sort of secret weapons testing, or HAARP?

The male fear of the being subject to the female body. Like the horror in Alien being all about giving birth and hunted down by a giant penis without social controls to stop it.

Interesting but apparently those birds are quite a nuisance in that area every year and it happened over the space of a few hours rather than being sudden.

Yeah alien definitely freaked the hell out of me, since I actually was pregnant when I saw it. :D

I still don't get the bit about the rampaging penis being the manifestation of male fears regarding femininity.

i did see a horror film once about men who had sex with a woman who literally absorbed them - they disappeared inside her.

That felt quite mysogynistic.

There have been horror films about evil babies/foetuses who terrorise the mother - I would have thought that was a manifestation of female fears - or male interpretation of female fears - getting taken over by the infant. Actually, that does sound more like a stereotypically male preoccupation, now I think of it.

eta: oops didn't mean to quote my own post - I meant to edit it instead.

Because the male viewer has become feminised through the horror of male birth. The experiece of the male viewer has become feminine and fears the unrestricted masculine personified in the alien.

    • Yes, she can just do stadiums and she's probably one step behind when you could have anyway. How Reading works this year though both top two are headlining with Chase probably more a closer due to darkness after Florence. I don't see Wolf Alice in the part of a top 6. If they go back to pure headliner and subs then yes.

    • Wolf Alice are supporting O-Rod in America soon, right? So yeah, I think as a 1/2 that would work. But equally was there any talk of her doing more touring next year beyond her 10 nights at the O2 or whatever it is?   Certainly, I think WA might take a year off themselves in 2027.
    • They didn't. They pushed for Spain to be kicked out of it over this Cueta thing, although as is pointed out by Spanish experts, Cueta is not in Schengen.
