The Fleet Foxes

I thought they were really good, but not quite 'special'.

A major problem for some people appears to be that they were a little 'lost' on the Pyramid, but as i was right at the front i couldn't really appreciate that. To me they may as well have been in my living room!

I still feel they would have been better suited to a smaller stage, but they are immensely popular and i'm not sure somewhere like the Park could have accomodated their crowd.

Every year i wonder why the scheduling is not thought through properly. NERD followed by Fleet Foxes is a mis-match musically and the crowds for the two bands are likely to be extremely different - often leading to massive levels of human traffic. I remember the same thing happening last year as Raconteurs fans poured in and James Blunt fans streamed out.

I felt that they never quite hit it for me at the time. I went on my own while the SO had a rest because he can't stand them, so I was pretty focussed, but then I ended up talking to an Austrailian and his girlfriend on one side of me, and a glory hunting Gooner ("first i supported Villa, then Spurs, then Arsenal") on the other. These people were all lovely but turned The Fleet Foxes into background music.

It was too easy for this to happen. Many of the other Pyramid bands would have held us while we continued to "socialise" - it's possible to have both at the same time but they did just drift off into my periphery.

Overall though it was pleasant sitting on the grass in the sun, chatting to strangers and listening to the music. Watching it back on telly, I found I remembered it more fondly than I imagined. In a way - I didn't see it at the time - but it was kind of proper Glastonbury time.

I've seen them twice now. Both times they sounded great but I felt they were a bit detached. I don't know. They're just so bad at interacting with the crowd. I saw them at the Forum in London and the were a bit better then so perhaps it was just that they were nervous in front of such a big crowd.

I have made reference to this in another post.

Love the album and was really looking forward to them as my first proper band of the fest.

Think the Pyramid was wrong stage for them, too nervous, too quiet and too self indulgent.

Still a crackin band and looking forward to their next album.

Yes - I agree entirely. Compare Fleet Foxes to Bon Iver's performance. Now he really grabbed people's attention and engaged with everyone there. Before the festival, I would have thought it would have been the other way round, I thought Bon Iver would have been more introverted and the Fleet Foxes would have been spectacular.

I liked Bon Iver before glasto, loved the album and ep and stuff. Now after Glasto, I think he's amazing. That's the potential of a great performance, it can change your opinion of an artist from just liking them to thinking that they're great.
