Thanks very much for that full in depth review of the tipi experience Fairies for Change.

Have been hoping for analysis like that for a couple of years, I think that finally makes up my mind to give them a go next year.

Do they heat up by 08.30 like modern tents or do you get an extra hour or two before this happens?

Thanks

I don't really know much about Tipis, but I spent the weekend before Glasto last year staying in one here. It rained every day and we stayed dry all weekend. Dunno if it is the quality of the Tipi or the how well they are setup that made the difference.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you what its like inside on a sunny morning (the weather was shite that weekend!). :D

We hired a tipi last year at Bestival - £800 for pure utter crap.

There's no ground sheet, you sleep directly on the grass, or if you splash out an extra 150 quid on a furnished one like my mate did you'll get a couple of coconut mats which soak up the moisture from the ground, 2 smelly sheepsking rugs alive with bugs, a lamp you need to put a candle in (but no candle) and a small coffee table.

We went in on the friday morning - the place was sodden - but we were so excited we didn't notice. Unpacked all our stuff and went for a walk round the site. When we got back a couple of hours later the rain was pouring in. We went to complain, a rain catcher was put up, which certainly caught the rain and funnelled it directly onto my bed. We had to abandon ship and go and stay off-site in a caravan as we hadn't brought any spare tents.

It nearly cost us the festival, we were so demoralised we were thinking of going home. It certainly cost us the Friday. Also, we missed a lot of the festival as we hadn't budgeted for transport to the caravan site, we couldn't afford taxis as it was miles away, so we had to get the bus at midnight. :D

All our stuff had to be abandoned as we had nowhere to dry it and it stank on the Monday.

We complained when we got home as they were not fit for purpose and we got a crappy refund - think it was about £200 - the stuff we abandoned was worth more than that & we're now having to buy it all again for this years festivals.

Don't waste your money Dave, you'd be better off splashing out a few hunderd quid on one of those big family tents.

Tipis were designed for desert living, not the British summer.

I've owned a Tipi since 2005, was going to go to the tipi field this year but apparently you can no longer bring your with you whihc is a bt shit.

Yes they do leak, on teh up side once the rains stops you can get a fire going and everyhting will be dry in about 20 minutes :-)

Even the tallest will be able to stand up in side them and they are warm at night and cool ewhen it is hot.

I rather sad that I can't get the old girl down ther this year. On the up side I won't need to strip any new poles. LOL

I used to love the teepee field before it moved, great vibe nice peeps. I always think now when you walk past them that its another bit of the site that is lost to a money maker - all fenced off & security on the gates.

If I were taking my tribe & they were the ages you said I would take enough tents to make a circle & have your own fire with a camp in the thick of it. Only place to be really!
